Black, moderately thick off white head; tropical fruit aroma; lighter than the average stout; hoppy; tastes like a black IPA to me; good stuff.

(Cask at King William IV, Leyton, London, 22 Nov 2012) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee, dark chocolate and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, cacao and a dry finish with a generous roasty bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Well made and highly drinkable stout. Very nice.

Cask @ King William IV. The pour’s deep brown with a medium creamy white head. The nose is light spice, pepper, roasted malts, chocolate iced carrot cake. The taste is more semi-bitter chocolate, charred malts, smooth cake icing and mild allspice. Medium body, supple, smooth. Nice.

Cask conditioned handpump Old Coffee House London 23/11/12. A black beer with a little tan coloured head. A great hoppy stout with tons of coffee in both the mouth and aroma. Great flavours and lovely hops. A delicious beer which is more akin to a coffee IPA for me.

Bottle. A very dark brown beer topped by a small, tan head. Sourish, almost vinegarish aroma with roasted malts and raisins. Acidic, lightly citrus peel-ish flavor with roasted malts, vinegar, rasisins, tobacco hints and some brown sugar. Medium bodied, dry. Roasted and bitter finish. A beer gone sour, in a quite pleasant way. Would be interesting to have a perfect sample once. 111229

500 ml bottle. Dark amber body with a moderate sized beige head. Aroma of mocha, coffee, roast, some pipe tobacco with some sour notes. Flavor is malt, coffee, chocolate and some kind of sour, harsh bitterness. Thin body. Drinkable, but I think this must be a bit off.

Scopey (7191) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 28, 2012
Bottle at King William. It pours near black, with a thin light tan head. The nose is liquorice, caramel, coffee, chocolate, tanginess and banana. The taste is caramel, spice, tangy dark fruit, tartness, coffee liqueur, banana and roasted malt, with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Unusual, but pretty drinkable.
