Cask at the brewpub, deep chestnut with a lasting white head, hoppy nose with touches of citrus and toffee, palate is acrid bitterness, there are hints of toffee and nuts underneath but the acridness is overpowering.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2014 Keg at the Old Coffee House, 21/01/14. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a good sized light tan head that dissipates then retains as a covering, half glass lacing ensues. Nose is earthy hops, caramel biscuits, pungent tropical fruit aroma, sticky mango, light pine. Taste comprises candied sugars, a good dose of pine, caramel malts, light cocoa, sticky tropicals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, earthy hop bitterness and a lick of mineral in the closure. Decent hoppy affair - easy drinking.

Keg at William IV. Brown with hints of red. Creamy off white head. Aroma is skunky hops, grapefruit, bit BO, kind of black ipa like. Taste is similar, lightly roasty, grapefruit hoppiness, bit more body, chocolate and coffee. Bit of creaminess when you get past the hops and some spice too. Quite nice. Mellower black ipa.

Keg at Old Coffee House. It pours deep cloudy brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, wood, leather, dark fruits, pineapple, cocoa and caramel. The taste is bitter-sweet, dark fruit, raisin, dried fig, cherry, citrus peel, pine, resin, brown sugar, dirt and a touch of alcohol with a very dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Quite a lot going on. Nice balance and high drinkablity.
