4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 ladnewton (910) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 6, 2009
Cask at the King Charles I, Kings Cross, London on 2nd July 2009. Virtually black with a lasting cream-coloured head. Looks beautiful in the glass. Coffee and roast barley notes strongly pleasant in both nose and main body taste, leading to a long finish on a pleasant mouthfeel. The ale was in excellent condition at this pub.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at London Drinker. Black brown colour with a thin beige film. Slight funk in the aroma with a pleasing hint of pig farm. Really good coffee notes offset by a faint sourness. Young and fresh in the mouth, effortlessly drinkable and with a dry finish with a touch of sourness. Really well made and just what a mild should be. In fact it’s the best mild I’ve had in a while.

[Cask at Milton Keynes Beer Festival 2011] Dark brown, loose beige head. Deep, dry roast & smoke with lots of hop presence - pine flavour particularly prominent. Almost more like a very weak black IPA than a mild. Wonder if they’ve changed the recipe, as it seems different to other people’s ratings here?

Cask handpump at GBBF, Trade Day 03-08-10 Pours dark, dark brown, good clarity and an off-white head. There is a nice sweet shop nuttiness to this, its like those large boiled sweet peanuts that have bits of peanut in them. Soft caramel and nuts are the theme with this very likeable mild.
