Cask at the King Charles I, Kings Cross, London on 2nd July 2009. Virtually black with a lasting cream-coloured head. Looks beautiful in the glass. Coffee and roast barley notes strongly pleasant in both nose and main body taste, leading to a long finish on a pleasant mouthfeel. The ale was in excellent condition at this pub.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at London Drinker.
Black brown colour with a thin beige film. Slight funk in the aroma with a pleasing hint of pig farm. Really good coffee notes offset by a faint sourness. Young and fresh in the mouth, effortlessly drinkable and with a dry finish with a touch of sourness. Really well made and just what a mild should be. In fact itís the best mild Iíve had in a while.

Quite farmyardy muddy nose with a hint of horse manure. Darkest ruby brown. Nutty slightly bitter woody roast notes. Very well balanced good beer. BBF 2010

My Bottom Line:
This quintessential Mild Aleís earthy hops and lightly raisiny, caramelized malts thrive in a lush, soft mouthfeel, leading to a balancing leafy hop bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the dark russet.
-This is one luscious mouthfeel for a 3% brew.
-Biscuity notes are revealed in the nose after a while.
-Light fruitiness appears here and there.
On cask at The Cross Keys, Covent Garden.

[Cask at Milton Keynes Beer Festival 2011] Dark brown, loose beige head. Deep, dry roast & smoke with lots of hop presence - pine flavour particularly prominent. Almost more like a very weak black IPA than a mild. Wonder if theyíve changed the recipe, as it seems different to other peopleís ratings here?

Roast aroma. Dark coloured smooth on the palate and a little fruity with a hint of bitterness in a dry burnt roast finish.

Cask @ The Old Coffee House. The pourís deep muddy brown with a medium khaki tan head. The aromaís roasted malt, hot cocoa, a bit of sugar-roasted nut. Some coffee creamer and earthy licorice. The taste isnít completely unlike an oxo cube. Rustic savory flavors. A bit of midly bitter charred coffee. Chocolate syrup. A bit of grain. Sweet toffee, malteaser candy. Light body, pillowy mouthfeel. Quite smooth. Overall, a really nice mild.
