Donker kruidig bier. Caramel, fruit, rozijnen, mout. Aangenaam bier dat hoewel het een zoete smaak heeft niet te zwaar is. Prettige kruidige/zoete afdronk. Bier voor op een koude winteravond.

On tap at De Wiering, Leuven. Wouldn’t call this a dubbel. Deep dark brown colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma is very sweet, malty, red and dark fruits, bubblegum, raisins, molasses, spices like star anise, amber malts. Flavour is very sweet, caramel, molasses, dark and red fruits, light spice, sweet star anise and alcoholic finish. Medium-bodied. Too sweet for me, but a nice dessert beer I guess.

Bottle of Broeder Jacob Dubbel Port. Pours a small, light brown, creamy head that mostly lasts. Body is black and flat, but sparkles are visible. Aroma contains molasses, grassy hops, lemon, raisin, tawny port and light alcohol. Flavor starts off light acidic with citrus fruits, then goes to sweet (molasses), to be followed by tawny port and finally gentle bitterness from hops. Palate is medium to full, with creamy texture and soft carbonation. An enjoyable dubbel for an evening at the fire. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPad

Corked bottle. Deep dark brown color. Surprisingly restrained aroma. Dried fruit, malt. Malty sweet vinous flavor. The porto is clearly noticeable. Raisins and some roast. Alcohol. Pleasant enough.

20 Oct 2012: 33cl bottle at the Diest Bierfestival, shared with my wife. Dark brew with a good tan head. Sweet and sour feel to the beer from the start: sweet malty molasses vie with the semi-souring Port and a mini-hop bitterness in the nose and the mouth. Red fruit notes in the mix as well. Body wise the alcohol was fairly well hidden and I thought this one of the best Du Bocq brewed beers I’ve had so far.

Tasted under the naem Reserva 9° 2012 Dubbel Port Very good, lively & whipped eggwhite-like, light tan head, pretty resistant over red-shot dark brown beer. Rathre spicy nose, "dark" spices, melanoidins, garden herbs and dark green leaves. Sweetish smelling, yeasty, even a tad bready. Sweet, if hampered by CO² acidification and a hot feel as from chili. Very dull flavour, otherwise. The portwine gets no justification in the mouth, whatever the label claims. Feels definitely overcarbonated, fizzy, to the extend that the main taste is partly masked. Slightly hot feel, warming. Bland, as to be expected from Du Bocq. And finally, if there is really portwine added, is this a beer, or a cocktail?

Bottle thx to joes. Brown with some ruby red colour, decent off-white head. Smells iron, sweet, malts. Tastes sweet, malty. Bit boring. Low carbo, medium body.
