Served as Broeder Jacob Double Port
Hazy brown cola colour, off-white head. Aroma of wood, red fruits, caramel, anise, yeast, light banana. Quite pronounced metallic iron. Rather sweet flavour, sticky dates, caramel, light wood astringency. Light sour notes. Finish caramel, light wood, liquorice and dried red fruits.
Supposedly 5yo porto (tawny) is added to the brew, but it’s influence is mild to say the least.

Pretty much clear, dark brown beer with tan head. Clear caramel, Belgian yeast, milk chocolate and sweet sticky fruit. very sweet, but not unpleasant. Foaming mouthfee. Some alcohol in the back. Very, very Belgian beer. Did pair well with my (Fontina) cheese. With I don’t get much specific port flavours other than a general red fruit impression. (75cl bottle, reasonably priced)

Broeder Jacob Double Port 9% 54B
Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. Pours mahogany with dark tan head. The aroma delivers some caramel malts notes and sort of a rock candy sugar odor followed by a bit of sun dried cherries. The taste has some dark roasted malts mixing with caramel and candy sugars. Interesting kind of overly sweet without much to balance it out or add interest.

Handbottled (thanks Kikster!). Enjoyed with Christmas dinner. Very deep brown colour, small beige head. Aroma is spices, sweet malts, some syrup and mild alcohol. Flavour is fruits, alcohol, mild toasted notes along with sweet maltyness. Pleasant!

Pours a dark brown colour with a thick, white and creamy head. Aroma of sweet apricot, peach and some sourish lemony notes. Flavour is full of sweet apricot, peach, caramel and some dry raisin. Medium bodied, silky mouthfeel and a fruity sweet finish. Good.

Draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu as ”Broeder Jacob Kerst”
Aroma is sweet with sugar and apricot. Flavour is sweet with lots of apricot, burned sugar, some toffee, caramel and orange peel. Sweet and sugary stuff like Belgian chrismtas ales usually are. Somehow I like the apricot aroma here.
