Martinus (2811) - Nijmegen, - JUL 20, 2012
Served as Broeder Jacob Double Port
Hazy brown cola colour, off-white head. Aroma of wood, red fruits, caramel, anise, yeast, light banana. Quite pronounced metallic iron. Rather sweet flavour, sticky dates, caramel, light wood astringency. Light sour notes. Finish caramel, light wood, liquorice and dried red fruits.
Supposedly 5yo porto (tawny) is added to the brew, but it’s influence is mild to say the least.
(From 33cL bottle @ Het Brouwershuis, Baarle-Hertog)

Bottle 75 cl. Comes as "Broeder Jacob Double Port". Pours a murky opaque, dark brown with a fizzy, dissipating head. Nose is strangely metallic with some cough syrup. Sweet, rich body dominated by dark, dried and overripe fruit - bordering noble rot. Rustic, but goes down alright. Little heavy on the carbonation. 160914

Under the name of "Double Port". Sour yeasty aroma. Amost balck with medium light brown head. Slightly carbonated, a bit sweat with caramelized malt bitterness.

0,33L bottle, BB 30.06.15. Pours very dark red almost black with tan head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is dark fruits, plums, apples, burnt sugar, and malt. Flavor is sweet and sour, dark fruits, malt, burnt sugar, and spices. Finish is dry bitter with dark fruits and some alcohol burn. Overall: very nice brew.

sayravai (4673) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 22, 2014
(Bottled, BBE 30.5.2016) Deep reddish brown with a medium, beige, lacy and everlasting head. Mild aroma of dried fruit, light roastiness and notes of chocolate. Flavor is dried-raisiny-fruity and lightly licoricey with port clearly present, some sourness in Oerbier style, no roastiness. Quite full body, high and foamy CO2, silky-smooth. This one came totally unexpected - from Stockmann, Tallinn - not the most complex brew, but perfectly balanced dubbel. Even in August. 4247

Dark brown, head disappears. Smell is nice, brown beer with walnut and port grapes. Taste is dominated by a watered down port aroma from start though. Not much body for the alcohol percentage. Thinner finish than expected

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drunk as Broeder Jacob Double Port. Dark almost black beer with quickly vanishing beige head. Aroma of port, ripe dark fruit. Taste similar to aroma. In addition to the fruit taste also some wood.

Port-barrel aged version of Broeder Jacob Bruin, tasted as Broeder Jacob Double Port, apparently brewed at Du Bocq. Stable, yellowish foam, dark ruby brown colour, aroma of raisins, chocolate liqueur, port wine, candi syrup, pear, bread; sweet fruity taste, chocolatey and caramelly malts, port coming through and manifesting itself in a warm alcoholic finish, yet never astringent.
