Martinus (2630) - Nijmegen, - JUL 20, 2012
Served as Broeder Jacob Double Port
Hazy brown cola colour, off-white head. Aroma of wood, red fruits, caramel, anise, yeast, light banana. Quite pronounced metallic iron. Rather sweet flavour, sticky dates, caramel, light wood astringency. Light sour notes. Finish caramel, light wood, liquorice and dried red fruits.
Supposedly 5yo porto (tawny) is added to the brew, but it’s influence is mild to say the least.
(From 33cL bottle @ Het Brouwershuis, Baarle-Hertog)

tomer (1529) - Rishon Le Zion, ISRAEL - APR 12, 2014
Bottle as "double port" stable fluffy head, hazy dark brown colour, aroma of dark bread, caramel and chocolate cake, flavour of dark fruits, dark bitter chocolate, dark bread and caramel, quite sweet but mellow and not cloying, very smooth and easy to sip, suprisingly light for a 9% brew, excellent with grilled entrecote. Highly enjoyable

Bottle as Double Port. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head that quickly shrinks to a thin layer. Aroma: dark fruits, bread, brown sugar. Taste: blue grapes, plums, elderberries, raisins, chocolate, caramel, hints of nuts and wood. Sweet (in a ripe dark fruit way), silky smooth, full bodied with a long honey finish with a slight tannin bitterness. Yum!

Bu en bouteille de 75cl, couleur brune foucée et une grosse mousse onctueuse, en bouche c’est un peu trop acide et sucrée avec une petite marque sur le blés tendres, pas fameux.

Tydelig næse af portvin og anis. Brunligt tykt men halvfygtigt skum. Mørke dunkel brun farve. Smagen er sødlig men afballanceret bitter med tydelige toner af port. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A thick and sweetish one with caramel, chocolate, some sugar. Full bodied with a bit of malt and nuts in the back. Perfect one for a cold day in January.

Bottle from Douberd - many thanks! The beer pours out in a deep dark brown colour with steady low head and medium to smooth body. Aroma of malt and wine. Taste of intense malt, port wine, dark grapes, yeast, nuts and torf. Very sweet finish of brown sugar and caramel. Had this beer to a dessert of dark chocolate cake and it accompanied it perfectly. Nice beer!
