3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 kmweaver (3025) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - JUL 17, 2011
Draft @ Broken Drum. Pours a deep, clear caramel-amber color; creamy, fine-bubbled off-white head; nice looking beer. Pleasant caramel / rich biscuity notes in the aroma, along with some red fruitiness and a nice earthy hop aroma, almost approaching a citrus character. Medium to medium-full body; average CO2; no overt alcohol. For 7.2%, I could drink the crap out of this beer: rounded, fully developed caramel and biscuity malts accompanied by a ripe red fruit character; just enough balancing earthy and citrus-tinged hop bitterness (some modest flavor); overall, my favorite of the beers we tried; rich maltiness, goes down very smoothly, with enough hop bitterness to keep things alive. Yum. Medium-length finish: toasty, biscuity, with just a bit of mineral bitterness at the far end.

Tap at the brewpub. Cloudy orange brown with a small off-white head, low retention. Aroma of lemon, toasty malts, and some saltines. Flavor has some light lemon with some chocolate and toasted malts. Also got a little dry dog food. Bitterness peaked at a 3, lightly chalky and semi-dry. Not getting any banana or clove. Medium prickly carbonation with a light to medium body. A dark American wheat?
