COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Darth is a big, rich stout. It’s full, roasty body gives way to a smooth chocolaty finish with lingering alcohol and spicy notes contributed by its Belgian strain of yeast.

Had on draft at the brewery. Notes of nail polish, hot alcohol, chocolate, roasted malts, yeasty, rough and out of balance.

Draft: Poured a light black with clear red edges, head was off white. Aroma is toasty malts and fruit. Taste is rich with fruit leaving way to roasted malt. More Belgian than stout in my mind. Nice alcohol warming finish.

4oz at the brew pub. A black beer with a red shine under a brown head. The aroma is sweet and acidic with notes of berries. The flavor is sweet malty combined with an acidic note of berries. Nice but not great

On tap at Moose’s Tooth, Anchorage. 2010 vintage. Translucent garnet body, medium dense creamy tan head. Toasty nose with alcohol; vinous with dark fruits and spice. Big, vinous body with hard candies, grape, plum, roasted malts, chocolate, and spice. Biting palate with sharp carbonation, prickly alcohol, and a big flavor profile. Complex and quite good.

Sampled at the ’11 GABBF. This appeared to be the ’11 vintage. Dark beer with mahogany highlights when held against the light. Thin foamy beige head. Alcohol and toasted grain and milk chocolate in the nose. Flavors of coco puffs, toffee, bitter chocolate, Rolo candy, some chalk and faint ash. Alcohol in the finish with some hop burn.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a roasted coffee color with a trim tan head. Smells and tastes of band-aids, muted cocoa, mild cherry, and caramel notes. Awesome name, but the beer doesn’t deliver.

On tap @ the Moose’s Tooth. Roasted malt aroma with hints of alcohol, caramel and chocolate. Dark brown with a small light brown head. The taste is mostly sweet with a light sourness from the yeast, there is also a nice warming sensation. Full bodied with fairly active carbonation for an Imperial Stout. This is a great beer, different than most of the Imperial Stouts out there, but that’s not a bad thing.
