Not cask, Amsterdam Ale House, UWS, 18/02/14.
Neapolitan and black jack aroma; incense, coffee, soft and attractive roast. Solid, lingeringly nutty high cocoa and espresso notes; coal and flowers, a glug of tonic. High condition approaching soda fizz. Black with a thick but dissipating tan collar. Tasty.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 On draft. Beautiful coffee-colored head, aroma of toast and chocolate. Flavor of french roast coffee, some chocolate, maybe some burnt nuts. Less hoppy than a lot of black IPAs, but probably better for it?

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Pitch black pour with a tall and dense brown head that hangs around for a while.
Aroma: Mild chocolate and roasted malts, but a strong hop presence giving off a floral and piney bitterness strongly cuts through the malts.
Taste: Mildly roasty, most noted on the finish, with a prominent bitter grapefruit from start to finish.
Palate: Full bodied, soft texture with moderate carbonation.
Overall: I feel that the hop profile clashes too hard with the base beer coming off a bit unpleasant to me. This is decent though and worth a try.

Cask at Blind Tiger (early Dec). Delicious piney bitterness with charred coffee from the malt. Not too sweet thankfully. Not too much citrus but that’s ok.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap from dmacs sixtel. So this was an awkward experience. Dave says I have an awesome beer on tap that I want you to try. He walks away, comes back in the room wearing nothing but a bowtie and transformer tighty whities, hands me this beer, winks, and says enjoy, with a creepy weird smirk on his face. I took the glass, ran outside as fast as I could, got in my car, drove far away, and drank it in the parking lot of Taco Bell. Holy shit that guy is weird!! Pours black with a thick frothy khaki head. Aroma of huge roasted and chocolate malts, citrus skins, grapefruit, and burnt toast. Taste of rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, ash, light pine, and bitter grapefruit. Amazing stuff!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at the Ginger Man, NYC, 23/11/13.
Mid black with a good sized dirty tan head that thins to covering over time.
Nose is pine, roast malt, liqourice, cocoa, jammy berry fruits, skunky hops, bitter tropicals.
Taste comprises pine, mineral bite, tropicals, grapferuit, bitter hoppings.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate - works well on cask, earthy hop bitterness in the finish.
Top notch CDA.
