3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - DEC 19, 2004
Draft @ Mugs Ale House. Clear brown color with almost no head. Bartender served it in a wide rimmed chalise. Aromas of dried fruits and light yeast. First taste is hoppy right up front which settles into dried fruits and mellow malt. The body seems a bit thin for a dubbel and the alcohol is a kick in the ass right away. I liek the concept of the Brew Master Reserve and hope these improve. I hear this dubbel is much better than the previous version released a few years back.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Discofish (152) - USA - JAN 12, 2004
Given my prior experiences with Brooklyn beer, this one was a bit of a let down. Somewhat tart with quietly subdued malts.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ungstrup (23922) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 26, 2005
[At Københavnske Øldage 2005, served by Garret Oliver] A red-brown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of yeast. The flavor is sweet malty and nicely spicy, leading to a dry spicy end. An OK beer, but not as good as most Belgian Dubbels.
