pet3rman (206), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 28, 2007 Bottle: Brooklyn Pennant Ale 55’- pours copper with a nice frothy cream head. Some lacing. Aroma faint. Taste has some bitterness covered by some malt. Bitter finish. Good Pale Ale. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 22, 2007 Pours a clear amber with almost no head. Nose is a little nutty. A little sugary sweet. Flavor is slightly meaty. Medium body. Long staying power of hops in the mouth, though mild. Feel is thin with bubble. Very drinkable, yes. A stable pale ale, but nothing really that fantastic. Might work good as a session beer. But still, there are greater out there. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Sep 20, 2007 In the bottle from Inari Wines. My bottle was packaged as "Brooklyn Pennant Ale 55." This was surprisingly good. A traditional and substantial everyday ale. I’d like to think that this was the type of beer made on good days in the old days. That is, on those rare occasions when the beer was not flawed, I bet it tasted something like this. Yeasty and doughy in its aroma, it’s not heavy, but it has a malty flavor. This is the most lager-tasting ale that I’ve ever had. I’d say it was a stand-up double. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 20, 2007 Copper with decent head. Citrus hops and lots of bready malts on the nose. Nice bready malts with a floral hop presence. Well balanced ale. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Sep 19, 2007 12 ounce bottle from SS Summer 07
Pours a hazy copper with a fine white head.
The initial aroma is of toast and biscuit malts. Not really much hop are yeast character at all.
A little bit of buttered biscuit flavor, balanced with pedestrian hop flavor. Just enough bitterness to notice.
Medium body. Semi-sweet finish.
Just sort of okay.
theviolet (168), New York, New York, USA Sep 18, 2007 Very strong aroma of deep malt and strong hops. Clear deep orange gold in appearance, thin white fizzy head. Taste is very sweet and malty. Lots of hops in the finish. Nothing else too distinguishable in the flavor. Full mouthfeel is nice, lots of carbonation however. Could use a little less. Not a bad beer, good for the style. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Sep 15, 2007 3/13/05 12 oz. Manhattan. Amber with small tan head. Sweet malty aroma. Biscuity malt taste with some light hops. Not bad. emobassfoo (178), Webster, New York, USA Sep 15, 2007 Rated while drinking: Pours a deep-hued amber with a big fluffy white head that’s slowly settling down. A pretty rich aroma of heavy malts and some hops. Biscuity and ’chewy’ smelling. Flavor starts off distant and rides up into a solid balance of malts and hops. Per the description, these Maris Otter malts make it quite biscuity (flavor and aroma). Quite watery on the palate, a bit dry at the end, but very drinkable. Looks like Brooklyn’s most accessible beer, but for an EPA, this is kind of lacking. The body isn’t what I expected, and the flavor isn’t as complex or ’strong’ as I expect some EPAs to be, but it made for a nice first beer of the day.
