COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

Bottle, starts out w/ a grassy sweet taste that just descends into a maelstrom of bitterness. Not one of my preferred pale ales

Pours a four-finger off-white head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Crystal clear amber color. Malty nose. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Flavor is malty with a sweet apple juice undercurrent - not much but not what I was expecting from a pale. Best before Feb 2008, 12oz bottle $1.50 from Capitol Convenience Concord, NH.

Draft. Aroma: Biscuity malts and yeasty dough. Caramel, lightly toasted nuts. Citrus, light pine, floral, and herbal hop notes. Appearance: Medium copper in color and clear. Off-white head was small and foamy with fair retention. Fair retention. Flavor: Biscuity and bready maltiness with light notes of caramel, vanilla, and toasted nuts. Citrus hops are the most noticeable, but notes of pine, floral, and herbal follow behind. Light bitterness and a lightly sweet finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Nice, drinkable beer. Well balnced. Very sessionable.

I got a single of this as part my campaign to investigate Brooklyn Brewery. The label was very attractive, with the 1955 Dodger pennant stripes in blue with red piping. The beer is a good caramel-amber color, very nice to look at. Alas, the small head vanished immediately and left no lacing. The aroma was sweetish-sour and fairly pleasant. The palate was disappointing, rather watery with a little fizz going down. Flavor was bitter and somewhat hoppy, though not nearly as hoppy as the Brooklyn Lager I had once. It was just right, the only off note being a faint soapiness. I liked this beer but unfortunately the bottle was two months past the best sell date. This probably explains some of the weaknesses, especially the flatness and wateriness. I’d like to try it again; no doubt I’d rate it higher. It compares pretty well to the Sam Adams Boston Ale.

12 oz bottle says Pennant Ale ’55; nose of light sweet vanilla and fruit; copper with a medium glass-lacing beige head; flavor is sweet caramel and a little vanilla; finish is sweet fading into a very light hop bitterness. Tastes kind of like some of the English beers I’ve had so if that is what they were trying for they suceeded.

orange-copper in appearence, tightly bubbled white head. a nice option if there are mostly macro beers available. malty, crisp, english hop character that is mostly earthy. I had two.
