Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Sep 5, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of Degarth via trade. Aroma of salty vegetables with light Euro-lager sweetness. Pours a transparent amber with a decent off-white head that lasts a minute or so. Okay, this is just wrong. Tastes like green beans with some Euro-lager sweetness in the background and a slightly sour finish. A little thin and watery. scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 2, 2005 Very fresh 12 oz bottle - best drink by Jan 06. Amber with a light tan creamy head. Real nice EPA aromas of butterscotch, grapefruit, caramel and black tea. Well balanced throughout with up front citrus and tea-like notes on the front side, but a sweet malty English toffee tone encompasses the bitterness to round this out. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, bittersweet finish. Had been a while since my last Brooklyn Ale, but I’m impressed. An almost perfect representation of the style and great for sessions as well... beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Sep 1, 2005 Tasted as Brooklyn Pennant Ale 55. This English Pale Ale pours a medium amber color from a 12 oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head, with decent lacing. Aroma is caramel and floral hops. A medium bodied English Pale Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are mild floral and earthy. Nice balance between the caramel, cookie, bready malts and the earthy floral hops. Very mild flavors as are the norms for the style. This would make a very nice session ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. sallad (110), USA Sep 1, 2005 clear copper with a light, light tan head. sweet carmel malt and citrus hop aroma. well balanced malt and hop flavor finishes carmel-and-honey sweet with a light fruity, floral hop crispness. medium to slightly thick, sweet mouthfeel. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Aug 29, 2005 Updated: Dec 13, 2008[draft at MacGregor’s - Rochester, NY] Amber pour with a nice white head. Very light and hoppy aroma with some floral notes throughout. Very smooth flavor that’s a well mixed blend of hops and some sweet malts with a nice hoppy and floral finish. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2005 What’s not to like? You sit down with the best pastrami sandwich in the world, or a wonderful hard salami on rye, and instead of a Bud you get the house custom ale on tap. Wonderful golden color, good malt nose and taste. Hopped like an American Pale, with good sweet malts; not very complex, but then, neither is a salami sandwich, and the beer stood up well. Indeed, wonderful with the sandwich. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Aug 28, 2005 Bottle. Amber with a nice head and lace. I’m thinking hops are primarily added late since the hoppy aroma is the best part of this beer. Has a pleasent soft malty mouthfeel, finish is short. Easy drinking. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Aug 23, 2005 Updated: Mar 30, 2006Tap: light caramel aroma with a hint of hops. Really not a lot here, drinkable and certainly not offensive, but quite bland.
