COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

As others have said, more of a brown ale, and a good one at that. Very malty up front. Missing the hops that a pale ale promises. Neat ale, maybe they should change the style to pale brown ale!

This beer wasn’t like a pale ale at all. It was a brown ale. Not bad tasting for a brown ale, but really bad for a pale ale. Too much malt and not enough hops for the pale ale style.

A little bit of a miss for BB who seem to be pretty consistant across the board with all their beers.

I was very disappointed with this. I normally enjoy a good pale ale, however this did not sit well.

So-so aroma and aprrearance. This beer really stood out in it’s maltiness. The malts were huge, a little roasty, and grape-ish with little abation. The hops kick at the end I was waiting for never happened. It actually finished fairly like a wine, pretty thin, with a red, dry wine aftertaste. That sensation was totally unexpected and I have to say it took a little getting used to. Puzzling to say the least.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2005 Nice lightish brown color with a white/beige head which lasts. Very sweet aroma and taste from lots of malt flavors, which overpower any hop presence. It leaves a wierd aftertaste and has an off taste as it is going down. Just average.

Beautiful soft copper color. with a cloudy body. Initially sports a thick off-white head that thins out and clings to the perimeter of the glass. Thick, sweet Maris Otter malt aroma. A slightly winey odor as well. Immensely sweet, so much so that any hop flavor is soundly squashed like a bug. As I finish the beer I still can’t figure out whether or not I like it. Strange.

Brown in color, frothy head. Clean aroma with hints of malt. The flavor has a definite British Isles quality, reminiscent of Newcastle Brown Ale but with more flavor. I think the yeast gives it the flavors I’m detecting, which also remind me of home brewed ale. The style seems much closer to Brown Ale than pale ale. Maybe it’s the absence of Cascade hops, which have become so prevalent in American pale ales in recent years. This beer has its own unique flavor and appeal. Nice to taste something different from the pack but I miss the Cascades because I think American craft brewers have gone one better than their British cousins in the pale ale category. Now English style ales seem lacking in zest and flavor compared to their American counterparts in the craft brewing business.

Nothing spectacular here. Rather a bland english style pale ale. The aroma is weak but that balances out the weak flavor.

Clear glowing light amber. Fat, sticky and foamy light tan head. Zero carbonation. Aroma of grassy and floral hops with a slight citric topping. Pale malt wisps. Clean and smooth with buttery malts and a grassy/floral hop balance. Medium light body. Dryish. Very English in malt and yeast flavor. Yorkshire maybe? Finishes with a light fruity slickness. Decent.
