pours out red color with a tan head that is nice and thick. malty and rich, this is a very good epa. hop presence is not there. beer is a little watery, but all in all, its a pretty good brew that is very easy drinking.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In some ways this reminded me of a cross between Bass and Sam Adams Boston Ale. Nice copper/amber color with good caramel malt notes, a distinct fruitiness and a good citric hop presence. Not bad at all and quite easy to drink.

I donít expect "pale ales" to be so un-pale! The color is a lovely soft chestnut, bright ruby tinges at the edges, and a nice cream-toned head stands on top. Aroma is a surprise: slightly toasty, nutty, crisp and clean, but without much in the hop department. Iím surprised also by the taste, where malt plays a predominant role, and hops are hiding in the wings. Delicious finish.
Taste is sweet and pretty, body is medium, texture excellent.
But wait, the best by date is NOV 02. Thatís in the past! The label says it tastes best before that date, and yet I can find no fault at all! What would a fresh one taste like?
I also learn from the label that Maris Otter malt is the cheif ingredient, but I disagree with the part where they call it a "pale ale". Tasted much closer to a brown ale, with a subtler nutty profile. A nice candidate for a session ale.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ Brewery. There certainly is a difference between the bottled stuff & the stuff on tap. The bottle is a bit smoother, creamier and a bit maltier. Slightly sweet and sticky. English hop taste with a light straw taste. Clean finishing is the biggest reason I prefer the bottles as well as less carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle pours amber, large off-white dishwater like head, sticky lacing, with light carbonation.   Aroma is quite interesting, peanut brittle, nuts, and maybe some earth.   Forwardly malty and biscuity, slightly sweet with a sorta burnt sugar hint.   Medium body and mouthfeel.   Finish holds some wet cardboard flavor.   Not bad, but not very clean/crisp on the finish.   Certainly an interesting beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 11, 2010 Re-rate. Aroma of malt and marshmallow. Clear dark amber, a bit of tan head remains. Flavors of roasted malt, hops, a touch of sweetness at the end. Very drinkable. Good finish. Well done.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours amber with an off white head and the aroma is weak or undetectable. Malty sort of scott taste with moderate carbonation but smooth going down. I donít detect the hop finish described in the description. Good enjoyable Ale.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2005 Standard ale straight from the brewery itself. As this was the last I tried, it didnít. make that much of an impact. Beautiful rich, brown color.
