Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

Poured an amber color with a slight haze, decent head, retention was weak, lacing only slightly above average. The aroma was pine hops, fruity esters, light caramel. The flavor followed suit, caramel, light toffee, assertive bittering hops (clearly noble hops), light pine. The mouthfeel was rather light and thin and this thing had a watery grainy texture.

Deep amber color with little head or lace. Sweet fruity malt aroma with a hint of hops. Slightly sweet malty flavor with a sweet hoppy finish. the palate is medium bodied yet smooth with a dry finish.

Pours a clear, medium-dark copper color. A small, fizzy, off-white head settles to a wispy film, leaving virtually no lacing behind. The aroma is dry and toasty, with mostly cereal grains and bitter, grassy hops showing. As it warms, a touch of honey sweetness emerges as a much welcomed balancing element. The flavor is bitter, with dried grassy notes showing sharply over toasted caramel and cereal grains. A medium body is somewhat harsh, with a gool deal of astringency coming through. I did not enjoy this one very much.

Colour is amber and clear. Fairly lasting head, off-white. Aroma is mild, light bread. Flavor is mainly bitter and a bit too thin body. Texture is dry.

Draught at the Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn, NY.</br> Deep amber colour with a beige head. Vanilla malt aroma. Served way to cold to enjoy properly. Moderate, smooth palate easy drinking. Needs more malt flavour to compete but the vanilla is a good first step.

Poured a light reddish copper...small to medium white head. Fairly standard pale ale; some sweet malt and earthy elements.

Brooklyn Brewery is one of my favorit micro breweries and Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55 is one of my favorite Brooklyn brews! Amber/light orange color. Clear with moderate carbonation. Aroma is mostly malt. Flavor is initially caramel malt with honey undertones and then a nice hop finish. Great balance of malt and hops. A nice crisp, clean, and enjoyable brew. 12 oz bottle; $7.99 per 6-pack.

I don’t expect "pale ales" to be so un-pale! The color is a lovely soft chestnut, bright ruby tinges at the edges, and a nice cream-toned head stands on top. Aroma is a surprise: slightly toasty, nutty, crisp and clean, but without much in the hop department. I’m surprised also by the taste, where malt plays a predominant role, and hops are hiding in the wings. Delicious finish. Taste is sweet and pretty, body is medium, texture excellent. But wait, the best by date is NOV 02. That’s in the past! The label says it tastes best before that date, and yet I can find no fault at all! What would a fresh one taste like? I also learn from the label that Maris Otter malt is the cheif ingredient, but I disagree with the part where they call it a "pale ale". Tasted much closer to a brown ale, with a subtler nutty profile. A nice candidate for a session ale.
