A bit of a dry taste with some wheat bread, grapefruit, and grapes. The aftertaste is somewhat bitter with a bit of alcohol showing through. Overall this is a decent session ale but not much more. ucusty (1922), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Poured a nice dark amber color with very little head. Had a smooth, but under-hopped taste. Its mild bitterness was accompanied buy sweet notes. It finished smooth and not dry, a nice summer beer. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Poured a standard amber with a medium thickness creamy light yellow head. The aroma was sweet, some caramel, hops evident. Fairly one dimensional. The flavor was a pretty even balance between hop and malt, light bitterness, sweetness, metallic bitterness. The palate was mild and slight waxy. Not a bad beer, just an easy drinker. nearbeer (1887), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma of molasses and metallic-pine hops. Flavor is metallic caramel, and has that twang of something that I hate in Bass (the yeast or the fuggles maybe). Palate is pretty smooth, light-medium, and dryish. Has flavor, just not any that stroke my taste buds the right way. A lot better than Bass is about the best I can say about it. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2007 12 Oz Bottle. Skunky, transparent pale malt aroma. Pours middle amber, with light haze and a rim of white head. Flavor is a predictably blah schmalz of underwhelming floor rot and dust. There’s some crisp sugar corners and refined yeast character in there somewhere but it gets buried by lackluster esters and an overly acidic hop dose. Finishes dry and bland. Another Brooklyn snorer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 11, 2008 12 oz. "Pennant Ale ’55," best by Oct. 08. Nice amber ale color, spongy tan head. Smell is of caramel malts. Taste is sharp with spicy, mostly English hop matched to crystal toasted malts. No ale-type esters, in fact this suggests some cold lagering. Bit of an alt profile toward the end. Beer2000 (1861), Kristiansand, Norway

Moderate aroma of sweet malt, caramel and a hint of fruity. Flavor is quite malty, sweet, caramel and a balanced light bitterness. Nice and easy.
