2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Steak (124) - New York, USA - JUL 2, 2002
So-so aroma and aprrearance. This beer really stood out in it’s maltiness. The malts were huge, a little roasty, and grape-ish with little abation. The hops kick at the end I was waiting for never happened. It actually finished fairly like a wine, pretty thin, with a red, dry wine aftertaste. That sensation was totally unexpected and I have to say it took a little getting used to. Puzzling to say the least.

Dark amber with a slightly malty aroma. The flavors are subtle but tasty........malty and ever so slightly fruity. Lightly hopped. Not bad to guzzle on a hot day.

Bottled. Pours a perfectly clear copper amber color with a small, long lasting white head. Aroma is of earthy and grassy British hops (fuggles for sure) and fruity esters and sweet malt. Flavor is similar to aroma with a bit of nuttiness and sweet toffee and buscuity malt. A bit of sherryish/oaky oxidation notes common in English pale ales. Sufficient herbal hop bitterness for balance. Great dry finish. The ester profile on this beer is great. Body is moderate and goes down smooth with just enough carbonation. Better English pale ale than any EPA from England I’ve had.

Really liked this beer. Enjoy all of the Brooklyn beers actually. Had this one as brooklyn Pennant 55 Ale... so they must be still making it as both names.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pinkie (118) - New York, USA - APR 2, 2013
Pours orange amber with good clarity and a head of off white foam that fell fast & left just a little lace behind. Bubbles up bombing from the bottom. Nose is classic and very understated. Strong and steady malt base, biscuit, caramel and toast. Hops are subtle citrus, pine & floral. With the smallest hint of yeast on the nose the balance is fantastic and appetizing.Taste is delicious. Smooth, buttery, mellow. Toast and biscuit, the malt opens up deeply sweet and round. The hops are not the star here. Not much bitterness just the slightest oily touch in the finish and no aftertaste. Very mild with apple and grass as it opens up. This is a very simple and quiet English Pale Ale that is true to the style, graceful and full.
