COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

DATE TASTED: August 9, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Howard’s Pub pint... OCCASION: home alone--meeting the family in Point Pleasant tomorrow... APPEARANCE: swirling activity below a two-finger thick froth that paints (rather than laces) the glass the body is a burnt orange with steady effervescence--drop-dead gorgeous , and only a foot away!... AROMA: smooth, malty base with a bit of bready dough that mellows the secondary citric kick with a surprising apple scent--otherwise, reserved, as an ESB might behave... PALATE: understated, almost buttery smooth with little resistance from teeth to throat--a bit watery...TASTE: a basically thin malt profile pervades; typical doughy funk intertwines with buttery notes and a bit of toast--not feeling this one as impactful or winning a specific category... OVERALL: Plusses include its attractive pour and easy sipping nature; negatives (if there is such a thing for Brooklyn brew) is its paper-thin fortitude and rather doughy aftertaste...bearing the "pennant" moniker, this beer should be more of a success that its name suggests; as it is, this beer is merely serviceable, but a lesser player in the mix pack than I hoped. I was surprised at the more favorable rating afforded by other reviewers, but I will stick with my experience...

Bright clear gold beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and a little dry. Modest carbonation. Smooth dry malt. Whisper of overripe fruits. Touch of bitterness before the dry finish. Duller than dishwater!

Bottle. Clear amber beer with a large off white head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, biscuits, herbs, nuts and some citrus. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, biscuits, herbs, corn and nachos. Not very impressive, seems like an old bottle.

Pours a clear medium copper with a short head diminishing rapidly to nothing, no lacing. Nose is caramel and biscuity malt, very faint hops, yeast. Taste is similar. Medium body, with low persistent carbonation and a mildly bitter finish. A decent enough English Pale - nothing to distinguish it, but nothing offensive, either. I don’t regret trying it, but moving the remaining five out of my cellar might be a challenge.

Pours a dark golden color with hardly any head. Smells mostly like malt and slight citrus. Tastes like biscuit and honey, watery towards the end. Light and crisp. It was just ok but drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour. Light brown with beige head. Nose is caramel and buttered toast. Hint of spruce. Taste us straight forward for style. Bready malts. Caramel. Pleasant.

From the bottle. This was a nice beer. Had a cream ale type flavor. Outside of the IPA, my favorite Brooklyn beer.

Bottle. Hazy gold/copper with a thin white head. Aroma is raisin and toffee with light earthy hops. Taste totally falls apart. Awful skunky mineral finish. Not pleasant. Spritzy mouthfeel with decent body. Everything is great except the taste.

Pours a nice light brown color with off-white head. Caramel malt, bread, and a hint of pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes crisp with a nice hop touch.
