rmalloy (177), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jun 24, 2007 Nose of butterscotch and hay. Well balanced taste with fruity hops. Just not a whole lot going on in this beer. Getting points for clean flavors and overall balance. One of those beers that’s better than it’s Ratebeer rating because of the emphasis in rating on strength and complexity over balance and quaffability.
elihapa (260), Connecticut, USA Sep 6, 2008 from log at friend’s party. Pours rather pale, orange in color with medium cream white head. Aroma of citrus, hops. Flavor is mellow caramel sweet, yet well balanced with citrus flavors of lemon, tangerine, and orange. Finish lingers, and is softly bitter from the hops. Overall, a well-balanced, if not a bit tame, brew. Great for hot summer days. blklab2007 (538), Connecticut, USA Sep 2, 2008 bottle labeled pennant ale ’55 poured a caramel amber color with a thin off white head that did retain a thin layer for some time. aroma has pale malt, light caramel sweetness, bread, and some mellow hops. mouth feel is medium light with ample carbonation. flavor is a nice pale malt and hop concoction. light bitters and a pinch of salt lead into a finish that has light hop and malts. fresh tasting nice session brew. mjfleming23 (13), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 28, 2008 I really love the aroma on this beer. The taste is smooth and malty and mildly hoppy. I could drink this all day long. bhensonb (2883), Woodland, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle as Pennant Ale ’55 from Vintage Cellar. Poured a slightly hazy amber with a minimal white head. Aromas of dust, lightly roasted caramel and some lightly spicy hop. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is lightly roasted malt, "biscuity" seems appropriate, and a very light bitter. Fairly tasty, but not all that exciting. ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 Poured a nice dark amber color with very little head. Had a smooth, but under-hopped taste. Its mild bitterness was accompanied buy sweet notes. It finished smooth and not dry, a nice summer beer.
