COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

Aroma is nutty. Pour is a clear copper color with nearly no head. Taste has a strong hints of nuts and fruit with just a slight hop finish. I’d drink this again.

Bottle in NYC. Fruity, rich, lovely beer. Prunes, peaches, yet enough bitterness to make this a nice little beer. Bu Brooklyn know their stuff, don’t they?

Tap. Copper/caramel color, with a white head that dissipated to a lacey surface. Nice aroma, both hoppy and fruity. Smooth mouthfeel and flavor is sweet, nutty, and caramel like. Hops are well matched with the malt to provide a nice balanced flavor that is not too strong, yet gives a medium-body full of flavor. Solid.

I don’t know what all falls under this umbrella, but I’m reviewing the Pennant Ale.

Appearance: Slightly hazy, copper-tan color with a thin white head.

Aroma: Grass, highish-alpha hops, rain, brown sugar, white pepper.

Taste: Hoppy, slightly acidic, very mild chocolate note, sour apple, herbs.

Palate: Tart and snappy.

Overall: A great summer ale -- classic, no gimmicks, well-rounded. Avoid food that’s *too* spicy, but this is great with summer fare, as well as a good concoction of red beans & rice.

Serving type: bottle

I really love the aroma on this beer. The taste is smooth and malty and mildly hoppy. I could drink this all day long.

Pours a deep golden amber color with a nice finger of white head. Aroma is citrusy and has some hop notes. Flavor is medium malt up front with a nice hop finish. Has just the right amount of bitterness to me. Body isn’t too thin, but not extremely thick or heavy and has a nice, balanced carbonation. A very refreshing beer with some body and bite to it. Another great offering from Brooklyn (they now have me hooked).

PENNANT 55. On tap at Rattle ’N’ Hum, NYC on 24th July 2011. Clear copper with white vanishing head and no lacing. Yeast and touch of smoke in the aroma. Lemon citric, sweet and tangy in-mouth. Finish lemon citrus, fruit and tanginess. Zingy mouthfeel.

The appearance is an impressive smooth layer of white head. Reddish orange, like a fox. The carbonation is a veritable Million Man March of upfloating bubbles. It’s clear but not at all thin. The aroma is a nice bready ale aroma. Like a regular pub ale. The aroma is mild and creamy. Hops are mild and more of an accent. It really smells like a thick cream ale. The taste is dry and biscuity pub ale malts. It’s a little on the non-descript side, but still good. It is in some ways like a Bass on-tap. The taste is solid, but not quite living up to the rest of it. Pleasant and expected. The feel is very thick and creamy, dry and chewy. Quite formidable. It’s a terrific "all-around" drinking experience (presentation + taste + aroma). The taste isn’t a mind-blower, but a very solid ale.

Bot. Aroma: leatherhops, as in a used boot thats been traveling trails of pure unpolluted sacred dirt. Nice malty salt of the earth mild definitely english hops. Does taste a bit like a ballpark - that mitt, sacred dirt, summer glorious yet plebeian hopes, wait baseball isn’t really enghlish, you should have used american hops you bastards! But flavorwise, it works veyr well, nutty, leathery, manly. I’m becoming a big fan of fresh summer brooklyn beers. Not a "big flavor" imperial type contender but one of the more solid session beers and definitely a beer to be proud of brewing, drinking, or serving. I would definitely put this in my mix at any summer party. Cheers! By the way its amber and has a nice crisp finish and a beige small tight head.

Pours a crystal clear light amber witha thin, quickly diappearing ivory head. It was frothy while it lasted and leaves without a lace. Smell is herbal hops. Reminds you of a British ale smell. Tea leaves. Persistent herbal hops permeate the fruity malt. Light hints of caramel. Rinse, repeat. This beer is a one-trick pony but it has a good trick. Sweet in the mouth with a light crisp finish. Nothin fancy but a well-balanced and tasty session ale. Nice.
