COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Pennant Ale '55...Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale '55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.

Bottle. The pour was a light to medium cloudy brownish amber with a large (2-3 finger) off white frothy head that was fully diminishing and left very little lacing. The aroma was of a light biscuit malt, a mild floral hop and a doughy yeast with notes of banana and caramel. The taste was a malty bitter sweet with a note of caramel early on then had a nice mild bitter hoppy flavor with a touch of fruitiness at the end with the flavor only sticking around for a short while. Mouthfeel was light in body with a slight metallic feel, watery yet a little dry in texture with a prickly carbonation. Overall a nice crisp and refreshing beer that had a nice mild hop finish, which just enhanced the drinkability of this brew.

As "Pennant Ale ’55," best by Aug 2014. Pours deep golden to amber with a fair creamy khaki head that settles quickly and leaves a few touches of lace. Very subtle nose of mild toasted malt and some fruit, perhaps a bit of dust. Somewhat sweet, a bit tart, mildly bitter. Medium bodied, fair action, oily, with a lengthy toasted and tart fruit finish. Certainly drinkable, pleasant if not very exciting.

On tap at Woody’s in Kingston. Malty with big hints of caramel and dark fruits. Lightly hopped but a very enjoyable beer.

330 ml bottle as Pennant Pale Ale. Pours a copper colour with a small head. Aroma of biscuit, some raisins and caramel. Flavour of biscuit, caramel, mellow grassy bitterness and and tangy citrus. Medium bodied, surprisingly smooth mouthfeel and very soft carbonation. Mellow and smooth. Easy.

Had on tap in a pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy dark copper with really no head to speak of and absolutely no lacing at all. Pretty poor all-around. Aroma is caramel and toffee along with a touch of dark fruit. Maybe a little grass from the hops. The flavor closely follows the smell. Very malt heavy with toffee and a bit of roast. Dark fruits are prominent as well. Medium bitterness with some hay and grass. Sticky finish is a little more than I was expecting. Overall, I’m not very impressed with this one. There are some ice flavors buried in there but it is a little muddy overall and a bit too sticky.

What can you say about a beer that has no description? For starters, this is an ale from the Brooklyn Brewery. That alone makes it worthy of a trial. The beer pours a copper color with a minimal white head. The aroma evolves over time from smoky to fruity. The taste has some fruity overtones with some bitterness in the aftertaste. It flows easily over the palate. This ale is an excellent accompaniment to a Chicago style pizza. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
