Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

On tap at Delaney’s (New Haven, CT): Poured so dark the lights went dim. Thin tan head. Bitter dark chocolate, coffee beans, toffee candies. Less smoke than other stouts, but still leaves the palatte chalky. A typical sweet stout. Full-bodied and chewy. Drinkability: Solid, full, smooth. Bomber. Rebuy: Yes. #207 on 21112009, DG.

2009-2010 12 oz Bottle -- Pours black with a dark tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, banana, alcohol, and some herbaceousness. moderate sweetness upfront and a good bitterness on the back-end backed by a deep, dark, and sour chocolate finish. Nice thick and heavy on the palate. The alcohol was very present and rough at first but smoothed out after a few minutes. Hopefully this will die down with age.

Jet black with a tan head. Aroma of the malt with some tart notes of raspberry, and smooth espresso coffee. The flavor is silky smooth, with a lovely coffee/cocoa flavor and bready notes. Very complex. A must have stout.

VINTAGE: 2008-09 Black liquid with dark brown accents. Two+ finger head of thick, creamy dark chocolate brown foam. Good retention and great lacing. Nice big caramel malts. Hints of dark and milk chocolate. Lots of dark fruit notes. Very ’roasty’ with hints of coffee and smoke. Big roasted malt flavor. Nice chocolate flavors, both sweet and dark. Slight coffee notes. Hints of smoke. Sweet caramel and dark fruit notes. Some toasted nuttiness. Very light spiciness on the end. (Is that from hops?) Very smooth and well blended flavors. Sadly, I find this to be slightly too thin. Should be a little creamier and more full. Just a touch too waterey. The 10% ABV is very well hidden, making this a very drinkable brew. Very smooth and tasty. Nice level of richness in flavor, but not overly so. I want to buy this by the case.

pours out super thick and black with a finger thick chocolate milk colored head that was still moving and partially bubbly. the body is dark as night with absolutly no light penetration. the aromas are caramel and chocolate(milk chocolate). it is full bodied and a grainy mouth feel was detected. there is more carbonation then i expected, and not as creamy as i was hoping. i taste obviously chocolate, some bitter caramel, lightly roasted coffee, and a faint hint of hops. i also get sugar, yeast, roasted malts, and a nice serving of alcohol. very strong American beer from brooklyn which was surprisingly enjoyable and i enjoyed it. the aftertaste is sweet and nice, but not lingering for too long and finishes dry and somewhat bitter. very nice session beer.

Pours jet black with a tan head. A very strong aroma, especially for a stout. Malt with some tart red fruit, and notes of raspberry, and smooth espresso coffee. The flavor is silky smooth, with a lovely coffee/cocoa flavor and bready notes. Very complex. A must have for stout fans.

the 09-10 bottle. Poured into a snifter. deep black with large tan head. The alcohol is a bit too huge in this one, so the chocolate flavors aren’t exactly coming out. Dark charcoal. Finishes with bitter kick and alcohol (of course). I think I’m underrating this one. (PS - my 200 beer at RB)

Pours a dark black with a quickly dissaoating brown head. Has an aroma of malt and lightly of cocoa. The chocolate is more prominant in the taste along with a hoppy and alcoholic palate, making it obvious that it is 10% ABV. I drank this out of a shaker
