Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Quite smooth black beer. Harmonius balance between sweetness and bitterness. Chocolate coffee aroma. Roasted malt. Flat in carbonation. Alcohol is not obtrusive although it’s strong. Dark black color, brownish head.

My dad came to me saying...son.. I really dont like these chocolate beers...dont you want them... ohh yeaaahh daddy oh... I like’em. This one I think was the first Chocolate Stout I ever tasted and it took part of forming my univers into realizing that beers could be something else than pale lagers. This is a bottle from the winter season 06/07. The pour is brown to black with a nice coffee-chino coloured fluffy head. The nose is coffee, chocolate and tobacco - the alcohol-scient is whiskylike topped with some brown sugar. The mouthfeel is grandios and creamy as hell. The finish is really bitter with hoppy notes and the primary taste is packed with tar, oily alcohol, wooden stuff, some coffee and chocolate My dad should have known that this beer (if you dont like’em) would be the perfect co-ingredience for an excellent Chilli Con Carne.

2007-08 version... Look is black with only a hint of brown. Enormous, puffy cocoa-brown head. Thick gobs of brown lace. Roasted but also sweet. Robust dark coffee aroma. Hints of dark chocolate. Smells dark and thick, burnt and harsh. There is a touch of dark grape smell. Blast of burnt malt, chocolate layer on top. Heavy strong coffee with a shot of strong whiskey alcohol flavor.. Alcohol flavor gives a sharp bite akin to a barleywine. Feels thick and oily. Leaves a sharp, alcoholic film. It’s a hard swallow. It’s not a smooth, creamy stout. It’s harsh, strong and full of alcohol.

Bottle. Black pour with a nice beige head on top. Roasty, chocolate aroma. Coffee, chocolate, malty, roasty, very rich tasting stout. This is a top quality brew from Brooklyn.

(Bottle, winter 08-09) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Malty, roatsed nose with chocolate, liquorice, dark rye bread, sweet espresso and a heavy, syrupy molassess sweetness. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, strong black coffee, liquorice, dark rye bread and dried fruit. Generous amounts of coffee/cocoa bitterness in the finish, accompanied by a sweet, warming touch of alcohol. Full body, fairly sweet. Perhaps slightly out of balance, but still a very nice beer.
