Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Pours black with a small brown . Smelled of vanilla roasted coffee and chocolate. Tasted a lot of roasted malts and chocolate. With a strong roasted after taste.

I can’t believe the high rating. I found this bear to have a very strong alcohol taste with notes of chemical and mediine type flavors.

Bottle, 33ml. Pours dark dark, with quickly dissipating bubbly tan head. Rich aroma of the usual suspects of dark sweet chocolate, deep roasted malts, and a certain something else. Some bitterness on the tongue, but nothing to take the shine off a great blend of the foregoing with not a little alcohol too. Very noteworthy stout.

An aroma of chocolate (!) and a hint of coffee, sugars and some roasted malts. Taste is well balanced but acidic. It brings out all of the flavors present in the aroma, plus some liquorish and a dominant, roasted taste. Palate is oily, and carbonation is relatively high for a brew of this kind. Finish is dry with alcohol present. A good, affordable IS.

Pours essentially black with a small, fizzy but airy tan head. Looked quite thick leaving the bottle. The alcohol strikes in the nose first, followed by vanilla, which is essentially the opposite of what I expected. Ooh, now there’s the chocolate: rich, milk and dark chocolate aroma. As far as flavors go, the dark chocolate punches you in the face. There’s a good mix of coffee and roasted malt on the back end. Nutty finish. Not as thick as I expected when it came out the bottle, but by no means is it thin. This is very solid. Quite delicious, in fact.

Such a high ABV (10,2%) for a stout, but that was not evident by the taste. This poured out a glorious ebony under a miniscule head, and gave up a seductive aroma of burnt coffee and dark chocolate, underpinned with the toasted malts. It was a pleasure just to inhale these intoxicating fumes. Tastes - yah baby! Rich with coffee, chocolate, and malt, it just doesn’t get any better. No downside at all. Oh yes, mouthfeel and finish were grand as well.

This is a very good imperial stout that pairs well with dark chocolate rum balls and chocolate ganache. Pours jet black with a surprising amount of dense, hazelnut-colored head. Aroma is bold chocolate with subtle earthy backbone. The bitter chocolate is further expressed in the taste with light wood, nut and smoke undertones form that rich, roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel with hidden alcohol that is very satisfying overall.

Very good at its best, very average at its worst. With some age it developes a really deep, dark malty flavour of fantastically real dark chocolate, well integrated caramell and a roasted bittersweet endning. A good cheese companion with the light acidity.
