tjw (10), , Massachusetts, USA Mar 8, 2009 Bottle. Completely black in color. A substantial head that is the color of the foam on a root beer float. The head was long-lasting. Full mouth feel. A hint of chocolate in the smell, but I don’t pick up much chocolate in flavor. Very malty flavor, slightly bitter finish. Excellent carobbin (5), New Jersey, USA does not count Mar 3, 2009 Black pour with a caramel 2 finger head. Roasty chocolate and coffee aroma. Rich sweet roasted malt flavor with chocolate notes in the finish, which is lingering and soft. Palate is smooth and velvety. brewcrew2002 (50), USA Mar 2, 2009 Not a bad beer, poured a cool black color with a tan head. good chocolate flavor. TheHulk (106), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Mar 1, 2009 Updated: Jul 14, 2009The only drawback from this being a perfect beer is the high alcohal content. It is evident in the smell and taste, but the malt flavours are strong and ecelently balanced to help the high percent go down smooth. Not too much aroma. Emphasis on great chocolate malt flavour. Cole (264), , Alberta, Canada Feb 28, 2009 From 330ml bottle. Black as the night. Great aroma, various roasted malts. Flavour of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Very dry mouth feel You can sure taste the 10% ABV. This is one hell of a stout. Good for the Canadian winter. Haslinger (640), Syracuse, New York, USA Feb 26, 2009 12 ounce bottle into a snifter thanks kegbear.
Damn blacker than Satans soul but smells way better. Really roasted taste but a little alcohol in the finish balances it really well. Solid Imp stout but I’ve definitely had better but would definitely buy again RHeastings (377), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle. Pours jet black in color with a tan to almost brown head. This classic is quite full on the palate, which one would expect with a beer with a higher finishing gravity. Flavor is an interesting combination if malty, roasty, bitter, and just slightly alcoholic. FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Feb 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle acquired via trade from Beerlando.. a trade that helped me get some older vintage Imperial Stouts into my cellar. Pours a big black motor oil thick pour, opaque and largely black with big billowy dark cocoa head that begins to dissipate to a moderate amount and lace pretty well. Aromas hit me as soon as I begin to pour: Nice creamy chocolate, roasted malts with some of the edge countered, light coffee, and some nice vanilla softening the blow. Initial is thick, but not overly, nice roasted malt balanced with some sweet and bitter chocolate, light coffee, subtle vanilla and cream. Body takes on more of a roasted approach with pretty good bittering hops which were very nice. Finishes dry, with some nice roasted and chocolate notes on the palate. A pretty good Imperial Stout, but not the best. Happy to of finally had this.
