Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

Winter 08-09 Bottle. Black with brown head. Smells of malt, chocolate and some alcohol. Rosted malts, a little coffe, chocolate and some soy sauce. I have enjoyed cellared versions more so I save some for a couple of years.

Pours a beautiful black body with cinnamon head that disappears after a short while. Smells robustly of dark chocolate with a bit of pungent alcohol not entirely hidden. The flavor is a solid combination of bittersweet or dark chocolate and leaves a dry and pleasant roasted coffee flavor afterward. This is a strong beer. Drinking just one 12 oz. bottle gets you going!

Beautiful obsidian hued pour with a thick brown head that refused to die down. Big chocolate and coffee smell, very pleasant. A lot of chocolate in the taste obviously, but also some coffee and maybe a little grape even. The palate was a bit thinner then I would have liked, but that’s the only real complaint. Very solid brew.

Dark black body with thick walnut head. Nice malty nose. Taste of chocolate, coffee and malts. Lots of dark fruits. Very nice.

[bottle 355 ml] Beautiful, dark color, with a thick brown foam. Lots of chokolate in thearoma, but also some coffee. The flavor has, of course, chocolate, and also some coffee and licorice. If you take a small sip of water right after, you get a very dry sense of cocoa.

12oz winter 06-07 bottle courtesy of MuenchenerKindl, thanks man. Obviously this was dark black. It smelled nice, chocolate. the taste was vinous sort of like Stone Russian. Fruity flavors, chocolate, a tad thin on the body for my taste but overall this was a nice easy to drink beer, especially since I split it with a friend. 08-09 Bottle.Pours a dark black with a small ring of mocha coloured head. Aroma is of chocolate fudge, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, dark fruits, red licorice, anise seed, tar, smoke, and roasted coffee. Tastes very chocolaty, dark, milk chocolate, some dark roasted coffee, red and black licorice, dark fruits (plum? wasn’t expecting that), tar, and soy sauce. mouth feel is great, velvety, oily, light bubbles which make the body a little lighter, it just coats your mouth in a really nice way. This is a great beer, I would have this any day.

I give this massive bonus points for being widely available when this could easily earn the reputation of say a Dark Lord if it were a limited release. With that said, I am not too impressed. Too boozy fresh and not much in the way of anything distinguishing it from most other solid RIS.
