Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Very tasty and smooth. Strong flavors of coffee and chocolate. Sampled on draft at the Creative Loafing Beerfest 2008. Yum!

Rich roasted aroma. Thick, but not as thick as might be expected for the style. It doesn’t seem as heavy as, say, Old Rasputin. Very noticeable alcohol presence asserts itself midway. Has all the rich, creamy, roasted stuff going on as you might expect, but not as much as most chocolate or Imperial stouts.

A thick, dark pour with the viscosity of motor oil. A deep and delicious coffee aroma with multiple complex notes. In the mouth the texture was rich, but truly lacked definition. I wasn’t sure where the wonderful coffee or chocloate aroma went. The finish was incredibly disappointing. This beer, which seemingly had been given so much attention from the folks at BB, left me thoroughly disappointed. For this style of beer, this is remarkably unremarkable. After drinking the entire 6-pack I can say that this is definitely not a 4.0+ beer.

Bottle courtesy of my Secret Santa. Pours black with a frothy brown head. Smells predominantly of roasted coffee. Tastes of toasted malts, dark cocoa, ash, slight raisin, and faint vanilla. Permeates alcohol as it warms. Well balanced and highly drinkable.

Pours an opaque sable with a thick, fine-bubbled, fairly persistent tan head. Strong aroma is good and "stouty" - smoky and coffee-like with chocolate hints. Rich flavor definitely gets one’s attention, mainly of roast coffee with hints of unsweetened chocolate and smoky hops. Finish is smooth, smoky and chocolaty. Very pleasing.

bottle from liquorloft tallahassee. smooth in texture, filled with roast and coffee flavors. the dark chocolate gets lost behind the roast which is a little disappointing but still an awesome stout.

tried this one again with a 2 year old bottle. aged version did not retain the head at all. aroma had more dark fruit, chocolate, and coffee and burnt characterisitics. flavor displays the same and has some barleywine-like qualities as well as a subtle vanilla bourbon quality. mouthfeel is still sticky but it has lost some of the co2 pop..........first rating-completely black and thick looking with a coffee colored head on it that retained well but i could smell the alcohol in the aroma. i felt the hops and alcohol overpowered the chocolate and burnt toffee notes but the beer was young (this year) so some bottle conditioning might mellow this out...(7,4,4,4,15)
