Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

12oz bottle, ’07 version. Every other time I’ve tried this one it’s been fresh and way too boozy. First time trying a one-year. Pours black with a minimal off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, malt, dark fruit and chocolate. Now to taste: WOW! One year is all this beer needed. Dark fruit tartness up front, followed by a burst of chocolate. Nice bourbon/coffee finish. Outstanding.

Dark syrupy pour with a caramel colored head. Aroma is of chocolate, caramel, figs, raisins, and a bit of orange. Wonderful. Taste is first of chocolate, fruit and then finishes with a dry smoky coffee finish. Warming alcohol. Not a session beer. Great on a cold night next to a warm fire.

From bottle. Part of January Dayton Beer Tasting event. Pour nearly black with dark latte colored head. Aromas of dark chocolate and malt. A fine blend of flavors coat your mouth - roasted nuts, espresso, and cocoa. Long pleasing finish with the alcohol just peeking through a little. High quality at a great price. Good job Garrett.

12 oz bottle. Pours a thick opaque black with a very silky tan head that lingers very nicely and leave beautiful lacing. Aroma is a very pleasant dark chocolate with a touch of sweet, almost banana and just s hint of alcohol. Amazing. Flavor is nice blend of dark chocolate and roasted malts. The roasted flavors linger at the end bit. This is a very balanced beer. It is velvety smooth and doesn’t feel like motor oil in your mouth, a very nice departure for a RIS. Wonderful...absolutely worth seeking out.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark black with a thick frothy tan head that lasts throughout. Incredible lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, and very subtle fruity esters. Initial flavor is a short, sweetness with wonderful roasted, almost toasty malt balanced by the bitterness of cocoa. Finishes dry with a nice warming. Full bodied. Medium carbonation.

Sweet chocolate aroma with some dark fruit ; nice bi-colored creamy head with nice lacing that just sticks to the glass well carbonated for this style which makes for a nice thick mouthfeel - you just chew this beer flavor is a little ’hot’ but full of flavor - this one should age very well. Awesome brew!

Pour a deep brown, but appears black. The head is a frothy coffee with cream color. The scent is heaby with alcohol, bitter chocolate and malt. the f lavor is very rich and consists of bitter chocolate, cofee, and roasted malt. Not bad but different than most imperial stouts in its bitterness.

Pours slowly and smoothly creating minimal head that eventually wraps itself around the edge of the glass around an almost-black liquid. There is a subtle, inviting scent of chocolate as dark as black laced with a hint of alcohol. Very thick and full smell. The taste strikes the tongue with several layers, establishing depth and dimension to the aftertaste. What at first is a somewhat bitter exchange morphs into a tasty and chocolaty vibe reminiscent of a classic extra-dark chocolate bar. The combination of the fullness supplemented by the juxtaposition of bitter and an undeniable sort of sweet. Thin on the lips, thick on the tongue, this slick and creamy stout presents an impeccable blend of flavor and the tinge of alcohol that is not intrusive.
