Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Overall, not a bad chocolate stout. Pours black with a slight tan head. There is definately a chocolate presence in the aroma. Upon drinking there is a slight sourness to this beer, I must say that it is not bad for a stout, but not my favorite.

Bottle from puzzl. Thanks for sending this incredible beer. Poured as dark as used motor oil, with a dark tan head and rich lacing that coated the glass. Nose is strongly of bitter chocolate with rich dark malts. Very full bodied with a rich, creamy, in fact almost oily mouthfeel. Flavor is very rich and of chocolate with a finish that is nicely bitter. A simply fantastic brew.

(Bottle, Winter ’04-’05, at Pikkulintu on 2008-09-12) Black. Small tan coloured quite long lasting head. Lots of dark chocolate in nose, also some roasted malts aromas. Full bodied and slightly oily palate with quite lot of carbonation. Dark chocolate, sweetness, light bitterness, liquorice and alcohol in taste. Long lasting chocolate flavoured aftertaste. Nice.

Winter 07-08. This is definitely black but not so sure of the chocolate. Opaque black in color with an intense milk chocolate brown head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is of roasted malts with a touch of bittersweet chocolate around the edges. Deep earthy flavour with a slight alcohol burn, which increases as it warms but gets more warming rather than harsh. Can’t really find any chocolate in there but great stout none the less. Cheers!

Winter ’05-’06 bottle (8,25% ABV). An absolutely pitch black and opque beer, with a small and disappearing but nice brown head. the nose is mild for the style, though enough satisfacting. Some rosated malt, surely black chocolate and some licorice. The flavour is not overly sweet, with heavy black chcolate notes. Thick, but also creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, long finish with medium to high bitterness. Lightly alcoholic in both nose and mouth. Surely well done.

Bottle. Re-rate. This is a beautiful dark, almost-black in the glass with a frothy, milkshake-like brown head, one inch thick. The slightly lactic aroma is full of smooth dark chocolate, coffee grounds, cherry, cocoa powder, leafy green hops. Mouthfeel is full, creamy and wonderful. In the flavour, there is plenty of hop bitterness, coffee beans, subtle cherry and dark chocolate (high in cocoa, at least 80%). Finish is long, dry and bitter with plenty of green hops.

Pours very thick and black with a brown head that settles to a thin layer, which produces some spotty lacing. As advertised, there’s lots of dark chocolate flavors which are mixed with molasses and some toffee. Rich, full-bodied, creamy, and smooth. Very light bitterness and dry in the finish. Aftertaste is all chocolate. The alcohol barely shows at all with maybe just a slight trace but all that does is remind me that this is something to be enjoyed slowly. The drinkability on this thing is ridiculous. One of my favorite stouts to date.

Very dark brown, huge beige-brown head. Dark coffee, bitter chocolate, sugar in the aroma. Taste more bitter chocolate than the aroma suggests. I might be high, but this is good!
