4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 klas (106) - SWEDEN - APR 6, 2013
Bottle from systembolaget (23 SEK). Malty and a bit alcoholic aroma. Black, with small brown head. Malty, chockolate taste. Good value for money. Probably even better by stored a few years.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 RedSox2004 (977) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - APR 5, 2013
Ink black with mahogany highlight, solid one-finger tan head and very nice lace. Strong espresso aromas with ripe dark fruit, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice. Wonderful mix of unsweetened chocolate and rich coffee flavors. Roasted barley malt, plums and raisins, and warming alcohol add to the indulgence. Full body, thick and creamy mouthfeel, little carbonation, and a beautiful lingering coffee and dark chocolate finish.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Niller (96) - Hammel, DENMARK - APR 5, 2013
Bottle from Barley Wine, Copenhagen. Pours really black with a nice light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate coffee and roasted malt. Taste is chocolate. Also malts, a note of coffee and a nice worm alcohol. Very nice smooth creamy mouthfeel. Great bitter finish with a nice chocolate mouthfeel.
3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Lmndrsn (22) - Philadlephia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 3, 2013
Pours black, brownish head. Head disappears rapidly, smells like a box of chocolates, tastes like malt, almost like a young whiskey. Delicious.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 justabeergeek (192) - Albany, New York, USA - APR 3, 2013
Appearance: It pours an opaque black with a thin (half finger) brown/tan head. There’s a good amount of alcohol legs here, and my glass looked as though it had been stained brown by the end.
Aroma: I was surprised at the smell because it seems muted to me. There is a little bit of a chocolate and roasty aroma, but there isn’t much at all, which seems strange for a beer of this particular style. I wasn’t too worried because I don’t necessarily weight aroma to the point that if it tastes good the aroma will greatly affect my score.
Taste: It’s much more flavorful than the nose would indicate. The first and foremost flavor that I get is a bittersweet/baking chocolate taste. There are some vanilla and roast notes, but the chocolate taste is essentially the only note here. The taste dries up a little as it warms to closer to 60 degrees, with a touch of smoke, but it is still really a one note experience.
Mouthfeel: It is very thick, very creamy; it feels as though it is coating your mouth.
Overall: This is a nice beer; it really is. Unfortunately, compared to other imperial stouts, it seems to fall flat because it doesn’t have any of the complexity I expect in an RIS. I’m definitely going to be trying this beer again, but it isn’t going to be something I’m going to run to the store to get in the future.
Score: 7/10
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ericular (226) - Minnesota, USA - APR 2, 2013
Pours jet black with a nice tan/brown head that dissipates quickly into a ring, but leaving great fine-grained lacing. Aroma is sweet with molasses and dark chocolate, plus some toffee, caramel, and plenty of roastiness. Taste is bitter chocolate at first, some alcohol heat especially if you let it effervesce into your nose, then a lot of roasty malts and a little coffee bitterness are what stick around. Palate is thick and smooth, a little dry sticky finish, but very full body. Overall this makes for a great winter or dessert beer. Aroma reminiscent of Bourbon County Stout, but like a toned down version that’s much easier to drink. Alcohol is not masked much at all, but it’s not a deal-breaker.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hotstuff (3340) - Indiana, USA - APR 2, 2013
Backlog rating 12-30-2008 (Bottle) The Appearance is a small light brown semi-fizzy head that mostly diminished, opaque body, spotty amounts of lacing, and a black hue. The Aroma is roasted malts, alcohol and chocolate. The Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, alcohol and a semi-burnt taste. The Palate is tingly, warming and this is a medium bodied beer. Overall, this is a very, very tasty beer that is definitely worth trying and at 10%ABV is a sipping beer.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 redpooba (372) - New York, USA - APR 1, 2013
A fantastically black ale with a creamy head. There are few malts on the aroma mixed some hints of coco. The palate is creamy and smooth, there are spices but they are not overwhelming, and the finish is clean. Please drink.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cantabrian (380) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 31, 2013
I can perfectaly sympathise with the 100 rating on this website. In spite of the misnamer, this is a very good imperial stout. Black as a shoe, with a lovely brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, a touch of coffee, licorice and whisky. At this stage I would still have believed it could have been a sweet stout. But the taste is clear! Roasted malts as a base, bitter, with chocolate, the alcohol, and a very very salty flavour, just the way I like it. Unctuous, it unfolds in the mouth with a flare of the alcohol, but it leaves behind the rough old towel feel of the bitterness. As an imperial stout should be!

330ml bottle. Dark brown body with notes of red and a brown tainted head. Nice blend of well roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and warming alcohol. A bit dry. Floral finish.
