Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Bottle, winter 06/07. Black and opague. Roast, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice in the aroma. Malty, salty flavor with licorice, cacao and dark chocolate, coming up strongly in the aftertaste. Full bodied, just a bit alcoholic, but well balanced.

This is a solid stout, but for an Imp. Stout it was not as chocolately as I expected. Came from the tap at Oldsmar Tap House, aged 1 year. The aroma was of chicory and chocolate, but the aroma was a bit evasive. This deep black brew had an expresso taste with a slightly bitter finish. Not my thing, but a good occasional beer.

12 ounce bottle- poured out a motor-oil black with a moderate brown head that left ringed lacing throughout the glass. Aroma was rich dark chocolate and dried fruit. Taste was perfect for a chocolate stout, all rich dark chocolate and roasted malt. Palate was excellent, thick and smooth. A keeper in my book. (For whatever reason, I kept thinking that this would be great with a slice of hot apple pie...go figure.)

Ok, Simply this beer is amazing, This is the best the Brooklyn Brewery has to offer. The aroma makes you fall in love with it, this is how i came to the conclusion of buying this beer. I work at a wholefoods in NY and we had a big display of it in the winter and customer knocked a 6 pack off the display which made me wanna cry, but the aroma was glorious, chocolate, cola, vanilla, plums, and amazing. After that i bought a whole case for me and my friends to enjoy. appearance was real dark with a light brown head. immense rich chocolate flavor and a tad sweetness which complimented the chocolate well. my overall impression is that this is an amazing beer, and if you disagree come to my house and ill give you 1 to try cause i have 3 cases to hold me off until the brooklyn brewery releases it again next winter.

This opaque dark brown ale poured with a bubbly tan head and a plum aroma. There is a very rich chocolate and roasted malt flavor that remains on the palate for some time. It could be categorized as a sweet brown ale. It provides a perfect finish to a great meal - better than dessert.

Bottle, Cornelius, Edinburgh 19/07/08 (somehow managed to resist drinking it for the last two weeks) Pours solid black with a bubbly, tan head that disappears pretty quickly. Deep dark roasted chocolate/coffee aroma with fruity notes. Tastes rich burnt chocolate/coffee with just the right level of sweetness. Truly an amazing beer - 3rd bottle this year...why can’t you get more of the Brooklyn range in Scotland?!

Bottle, from Cornelius in Edinburgh. Deep black, just a little brown edge, small layer of fine dark tan bubbles. Dense chocolate cake aroma, pleasant charcoal edge, vanilla, date sugar. Flavor of warming melty milk chocolate spiked with dark rum, raisins, a nice burnt edge that keeps the sweetness from being too sticky. A solid, impressive imp. This is really a beautiful beer on it’s own, but also not so much of a prima donna that it couldn’t happily pair with a bunch of different food. It almost seems brewed with that in mind. A cellar full of this, and oh the pairings that would result!
