DrnkMcDermott (1826), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jan 29, 2008 Updated: Jun 8, 2009Draft taster at Moonshine, Chicago. Hey! It’s on tap somewhere! Even in a teeny glass, this has a heady alcohol smell. All black, no head. Taste is nothing more than a snootful of Kahlua. Well, it’s more than that. There are plenty of stout malt roasties, and a finish like a molasses cookie. Glad I had a chance at a fresh one for when I finally crack that 2002 bottle in the cellar. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Jan 28, 2008 Enjoyed very much. Serious hop flavor, which I was not expecting. Not much in the way of roast, although my wife said she could smell coffee 5 feet away. Big time chocolate flavor. A nice treat. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 A vehement pour into a snifter creates a haughty 3 finger head that floats atop a jet black body. Cocoa colored lacing adheres thickly to the glass.
Smells of mocha and espresso, with a hint of brandy soaked cherry. Very appetizing.
Roasted and chocolate malts wallop the palate, echoing the smell and adding a vague spiciness and possibly apricot and raspberry.
This beer is very smooth and rich, but the bitter bite at the end from the roasted malt keeps the finish dry and prevents it from being syrupy.
Can’t taste the big 10.6 abv, delicious enough to have another. Great offering from Brooklyn. kopestes (164), Braine l’Alleud, Belgium Jan 26, 2008 Bottle in Copenhagen with my friend Kaare. Deep black with brown head. Great aroma of coffee and sweet malt. Taste is light roast, coffee (or dark chocolate?) with hoppy bitter aftertaste. It warms you up quite well. Very good and enjoyable beer! yespr (11571), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jan 25, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a dense dark brown and creamy head. Thick chocolate and dried fruit aroma, almost a wineous note. Flavour is roasted chocolate malt, slight smooth but mainly quite flat on carbonation and flavour. I’m not impressed, but it isn’t bad. Just not that thrilling. DoubleBubble (107), Mescal Lakes (wherever that is), Arizona, USA Jan 24, 2008 Winter 07-08. Pours a dark brown, with a finger width tan head. Faint lacing. Aroma of light roasty malt, with a touch of chocolate. Some dark esters. Alcohol is nicely hidden, vague flavors of chocolate, dark esters. A little bitter and dry. Not as sweet and smooth as I was hoping. barleycorn1 (10), Catonsville, Maryland, USA Jan 23, 2008 Bought a sixer of this the other day. you da man if you can finish all of them in one sitting and still stand up. this brew is strong...lots of alcohol presence...dark as the night sky...good beer to accomp. shoveling snow. jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA Jan 23, 2008 Tasted with 5 other Imperial Stouts. Pours black with creamy light brown head. The aroma is sweet caramel and some chocolate. The taste has definate notes of Alcohol along with the sweetness. Not much bitterness. Definately the sweetest stout of the night.
