Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Jan 13, 2008 Bottle: Great stout. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Slight aroma of chocolate. Taste is similar to aroma, with just a little more chocolate. Alcohol is very well hidden. folkdancin (5), Fairborn, Ohio, USA does not count Jan 9, 2008 Pours a brilliant black with solid tight dark brown head. This is a true chocolate stout with small hints of coffee and roated malt at the finish. A slight warmth but as smooth of a stout you can get at 10.6% from start to finish. beerking99 (199), USA Jan 9, 2008 Pours heavy, thick, and deep black with garnet notes and a very dark brown head of dense moose. Completely opaque, this is the black hole of beers. Aroma is strong dark, even burnt malt, with notes of the alcohol and some dark fruits (dates, figs, currants). Hintsof anise come through in the aroma as well. Flavor is more dark (burnt) malt, bitter chocolate, and some very slight sherry notes. Finish is pleasantly dry and dark, with subtle reminders of the alcohol. Body is thick and oily, but very smooth. jbean (110), Illinois, USA Jan 8, 2008 Updated: Jan 20, 2008Bottle. Pours syrupy black with thin tan head. Aroma is chocolaty (but not nearly as chocolately as stouts that actually use chocolate), roasted, and alcohol is detectable. The flavor is rich and well balanced, sweet chocolate, coffee, and perfect bitterness. Very full bodied and smooth. My only complaint is that the alcohol is far too prevalent at the end. A very good beer, but there are much better imperial stouts out there. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jan 8, 2008 Pours a dark brown/ Black color with a thick creamy tan head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts and a little bit of alcohol. Nice thick and chewy chocolate taste that turns to roasted/burnt malt flavor. Slight bitterness on the end as well. Not bad! Thanks Ubamartian! BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jan 8, 2008 After having this baby at GABF I was a bit disappointed. Joebrew however provided an aged bottle out of his cellar that blew me away. Excellent chocolate aroma and flavor with hints of coffee. Smooth creamy body. Absolutely delicious. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jan 7, 2008 Updated: Jan 29, 2008Pours a dark brown with decent sized head, nice looking. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Nice sweetness, enough bitterness to be noticed. Very nice, I can’t wait until this beer is sold in Minnesota. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 7, 2008 Lots of character and subtlety are buried in this brew. The alcohol presence is a bit harsh but not enough to stop me from enjoying this one.
