Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

Pours a very deep black color, a very thick cream, tan head. Aroma is slightly sour, light chocolate, some sweet prune. Flavor starts off slightly sour, moves into a quick dark chocolate flavor and ends with a modest amount of burn, coffee flavor. A modest thickness, a good lacing and low carbonation overall. Overall a decent brew with a semi-sweet flavor and good amount of density.

12 oz. bottle, bottled Winter 07-08, pours a thick black tar color with a finger of frothy, tan-mocha colored head that leaves a delicate, sparse lacing. Aroma is of a vanilla malt, rich with roasted cocoa bean undertones. Front palate is of alcohol, but not nearly as much as I’d anticipated given the ABV. This melts into a creamy middle of milk chocolate and a bittersweet finish. The palate is very complex - too complex for me to pick out a lot of specifics - but delicious nonetheless. By far, this is my favorite higher ABV beer. Nice medium body, flavorful yet not too overwhelming. I’d love to make this into a vanilla-bean float or serve it with a caramel chocolate lava cake ala mode. Much better quality (IMO) than the Shenandoah Chocolate Donut beer (my previous chocolate fave).

Very mild but nice aroma. Pours with a nice tight creamy head. Looks great in the glass! The taste is great and exactly what one would expect, the finish is long and ends with an unpleasant alcoholic after-taste. At 10% ABV it isn’t surprising the alcohol comes through. Will buy again.

Pours thick black and has creamy mocha head. Actually looks like coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee (espresso), liquor, burnt wood, and a little bit of dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is somewhat lively and slightly silky. Medium long finish and medium weight mouthfeel. Completely overrated.

Bottle. Nose of coco, roasted goodies, coffee, and alcohol. Poured a black (who would have ever guessed) color with brown foam that quickly dissipated. During devouring this stout, I noticed no head retention or lacing. Tasted like toasted malts, chocolate, with a smooth slight smoky finish. Low carbonation on my palate and overall this is a well crafted stout. Not as good as Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence or Oskar Blues Ten Fidy.

Bottle - pours pure black with a small brown head. Aroma is strong dark chocolate. Flavour is very chocolatey and the alcohol is quite apparent at 10%. Simply one of the best imperial stouts out there.

( 12pz bottle) pours pure black with a huge head as big as the beer that is dark brown, creamy and oily. Nose of semi-sweet chocolate malt, cream and light bittering hops. Taste has only a hint of alcohol, semi/sweet chocolate, creamy and just the right thickness for the style. Finishes with a slight chocolate bitter and more creaminess.

Om nom nom. SO GOOD. From bottle into pint at Professor’s Pub. Aroma is bleu cheese for some reason but the taste is definitely all that bitter dark chocolate and roasted malts. Pours dark black with a half inch dark coffee head. Smooth yummy and bitter finish.
