COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

It’s a hot, oily, inky punch in the mouth. It doesn’t have the word ’extreme’ or ’imperial’ in it’s name but the obvious redundancies of black, chocolate, and stout serve to drive home the point well enough. And is it just me or does Garrett Oliver bear a striking resemblance to Neil deGrasse Tyson? Right? Don’t tell me that Pluto isn’t a planet, a few more of these black chocolate stouts and I’ll bet I can see it from the backyard.

Bottle@Morton’s Market - Black color and strong Mocha Chocolate aroma. Taste is mocha, roast, with some bitter dark chocolate, and a hint of dark fruits. Thick and smooth as silk. Palate was rich chocolate, roast, and just pure yumminess! Finish of last ounce was like liquid chocolate mousse. One of the best brews i’ve ever had!

Black color with a nice brown head. Aromas of licorice, chocolate, coffee liquor, and ethanol. Rich mouth-feel. Quite hoppy and bitter. Has a clearly noticeable alcohol flavor, like somebody dropped a shot of vodka in a glass of chocolate milk. I didn’t like it much, but the aroma and appearance got it into an ok score for me.

Dark. Coffee and chocolate aromas. Dark chocolate with a bitter finish, balanced taste. The price tag makes it a really solid Imperial Stout.

I definitely felt the chocolate in here ! Quite the amazing stout. Dark and black as it is supposed to be. Tasty as hell. Strong as required. Chocolate and coffee aromas and flavours. Very malty ! I don’t mind the lack of foam but the lack of yeast deposits was a very negative point to me ! I can’t imagine a top class beer without yeast at the bottom.

Nose has chocolate muffins, a slight spice (aniseed? Liquorice?), some toffee-ish dried dates, and faint ground filter coffee – and, promisingly, alcoholic richness. Also a little of Cadbury’s ‘fruit and nut’ chocolate bar about it, and a very small smoky whisky note. Taste has got a lot of sweet malt, and finish is a sweet choc milkshake affair, with boozy burn behind it. Puts me in mind of somewhere between Harviestoun’s “Old Engine Oil”, and Harviestoun’s “Ola Dubh” beers; maybe if I’d cellared for more than six months it might be closer to the latter than the former. I liked it quite a bit..

Bottle. Black colour with beige head. Rich aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, toffee. Alcohol. Complex taste, roasted, malt and caramel sweetness. Nuts, chocolate, toffee. Alcohol. Very complex and very good beer.

Bottle from the LCBO that has been cellared for more than 3 years apparently :). Lovely dark chocolate aroma, hints of coffee and a touch of anise. Smells very rich. Dark chocolate flavour with some good smooth espresso and a hint of leather and anise. Lovely smoothness to this.

Wasn’t sure I liked it after the first taste. But the more you drink, the more the dark chocolate flavour comes through. This is one of the better chocolate stouts. 10% Vol.
