Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Draught > Gingerman. Well, I’m pretty over the imp stout phase but this is f’ing solid. I didn’t taste any chocolate; nevertheless, the other flavors were damn tasty. Not to dry and bitter which I sometimes find w/ imp stouts. Wish the 4pks weren’t so expensive.

First time I tried this beer a few year ago, before I started drinking much in the way of craft beer, I hated this brew - but that is because is was so much different than anything I had ever really tried (the most adventuresome I had gotten at the point was a Guinness). Now, it is one of my favorites - my, how times have changed! This beauty pours a black color with a dark brown head. Aromas of roasted barley, dark rich chocolate, espresso, bitterness and faint alcohol. Taste is quite rich, with a nice chocolate smoothness, roasted malt, licorice and faint alcohol. This is a great beer to pour on a cold night and drink by the fireplace and relax - can’t think of a better evening.

Dark, tar-like pour with an off white head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. The flavor is predominantly coffee, with a hint of malty chocolate. The beer finishes with hops more than anything else. This is a good stout, but I don’t see anything really unique in the taste. Perhaps a thicker body and more chocolate would make this one stand out.

Probably the best stout I have ever had. Pour like molasses dark black with frothy tan head. Aroma is malty and chocolate with alcohol and sweet flavours. Taste is bitter and sweet with a big alcohol kick. A wonderful beer.

One of the best stouts I’ve tried. Incredibly smooth. Highly recommended.

Pours a nice black with a tightly laced dark brown head. Aroma is heavenly with caramel, malt and chocolate. Taste is fairly smooth with chocolate malt, with light sweetness and nicely balanced hops. Great beer overall.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin frothy tan head that nicely laces the glass. Roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, and espresso aromas. Burnt sugar, chocolate, alcohol, and espresso flavors. Very nice after dinner or dessert beer.

Tasted alongside Oskar Blues Ten FIDY in Houston, TX (courtesy of Spec’s on Smith). That being said, this surely wasn’t a fair comparison, putting it up against a Colorado heavyweight. Pours a rich black with red edges under a nice-sized cap of beige head. Aroma is boozy and has strong hints of espresso, but not too much in the way of dark chocolate. The flavor is another matter, with a good balance of black coffee and chocolate, but it’s overridden by something I can only characterize as sour cherry that disrupts the balance.
