COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Bottle from systembolaget (23 SEK). Malty and a bit alcoholic aroma. Black, with small brown head. Malty, chockolate taste. Good value for money. Probably even better by stored a few years.

330ml bottle into a chalice. Pours jet black; sparse head. Nose of roasted malts, burnt rubber, and chocolate syrup; rich dark chocolate and roasted malty flavour. Does taste its alcohol percentage. Kinda slick. Mild but lasting bitter aftertaste. Warming. Must get another and try aging it.

GIJOE (652) - North Berwick, Maine, USA - OCT 28, 2014
Pours pitch black with a thin brownish head that dissipates quickly to a ring and a small, bubbly patch. Moderate lacing. Nose is like a heavy, moist chocolate cake or brownie. Taste is slightly on the sweet side of balanced, which one might expect, given the name. Rich, chocolaty loveliness! There is a nice bitter bite, particularly in the aftertaste, that is reminiscent of high cacao dark chocolates. Full body; moderate carbonation. Delicious beer!

varanid99 (537) - AUSTRALIA - OCT 27, 2014
Black pour with a thin but persistent tan head. Chocolate - almost a good chocolate syrup aroma; dried fruit, jammy, plummy aromas. Taste is similar, roasty, chocolatey, slightly sweet at first then more like a good dark chocolate bar, a little coffee, a little bitterness from that as well. Slight boozy Baileys finish. Great beer

bastarda (87) - Freiburg, GERMANY - OCT 24, 2014
@bartlebier’s and oldmanriver’s beer seminar; aromas of toffee, coffee, melasse, plums and raisins, wonderfully chewy mouthfeel, taste brings up notes of raisins and melasse again, and more plums, and plum jam with just the right amount of bitterness at the finish, malt-coffee aftertaste. A yummy beer!

hohops (320) - Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 21, 2014
Appearance is just about pitch black, a light brown head which instantly disappears. Aroma is loads of chocolate- like smelling a smooth chocolate milkshake. Some hops are detectable, along with espresso coffee and a hint of dark fruit. Taste- huge bitterness, dark chocolate, lots of roasted malt, black coffee, quite a full mouthfeel, a long, bitter, chocolatey finish. Gets a bit more boozy as it warms, with notes of port and fruitcake. Really nice.

HKdIPA (263) - HONG KONG - OCT 16, 2014
Bottle at Junction in London. Pitch black pour with tan head. Chocolate aroma with a bit of licorice but not overpowering. Smells great for a stout like this. Taste is rich and bitter chocolate - roasted malts, hoppy bitterness, lots of chocolate and some coffee. Bitter finish. Doesn't taste like 10%. Palate is both bubbly and rich (not too thick though) - nice. Exceeds expectations - delicious stout.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep black color with a thin dark beige almost brown head. Minimum retention and very few lacings left S: Smell is rich. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, candy, vanilla. Ended by grassy hops and alcohol T: Follows the nose. Roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate, coffee, yeasts, grassy hops. In overall a deliciously bitter beer. Very very tasty M: Full creamy body. Low carbonation. Dry bitter mouthfeel. Alcohol is quite evident. Aftertaste is grassy and earthy O: Brooklyn beers are usually good. This one is even better ;) [ BA Review @ 1/28/2012 ]
