4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is one of my most favorite beers. This particular bottle was from the 11-12 winter season. The initial aroma was obviously one of very dark chocolate, with hints of cherry, and possibly some liquorice. The appearance is jet black with minimal head. Looks almost like motor oil. The taste is a mixture of light sweetness and heavy bitter, reflective of (not surprisingly) a very dark chocolate. Aftertaste has a tang to it with a sharp bitterness. I drank it probably a little colder than I should have (refrigerator cold, not cellar cold), so I’m sure some of the taste wasn’t fully apparent. The palate was fairly pleasing - full body, creamy/thick texture, average carbonation on the tongue, but more than was expected from the visuals, bitter, lasting finish. Overall a great imperial stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Diferente. Compleja. Todo un copazo.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours deep black with a light brown head which is moderate in size but soon recedes to a minute foamy lacing. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, slight figs, xmas spices and slight roast malts. Taste is dark chocolate, cocoa, slight roast malts, slight cocoa bitterness and moderate vanilla undertones throughout. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap @ Max’s Rare & Obscure. Black pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, licorice, some soy sauce and quite spicy. Flavor is quite bitter, some alcohol and a bit harsh. Not really my kind of stout.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
From Mexican restaurant of all things in NYC. Aroma of chocolate, sweetness, smokiness, very nice. Black beer with a pretty brown head but it disappears faster than expected for an Impy. Flavor is solid with chocolate, smoke, wood, a bit of bitterness from the chocolate. It’s weaker than some other Impy stouts but that isn’t a bad thing here.
It’s almost a bit too drinkable for the APV. Nice, very nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Chocolate and vanilla aroma with hints of cognac. Taste of chocolates and toast. Really nice roast notes in the aftertaste, which BTW is loooong. Semi-dry, but still some well balanced vanilla sweetness added. Hints of liqourice.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, thanks Ben for grabbing. Aroma: chocolate, roasted malt, molasses, smokey. App: pitch black head, minimal beige head, small. Some shy lacing. Taste and palate: full body, creamy, soft carbonation, smooth, sticky, medium sweetness, warm alcohol and abrupt bitter finish. Overall: wow! Perfectly balanced between the sweetness and the bitterness. This is a masterpiece.
