4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is one of my most favorite beers. This particular bottle was from the 11-12 winter season. The initial aroma was obviously one of very dark chocolate, with hints of cherry, and possibly some liquorice. The appearance is jet black with minimal head. Looks almost like motor oil. The taste is a mixture of light sweetness and heavy bitter, reflective of (not surprisingly) a very dark chocolate. Aftertaste has a tang to it with a sharp bitterness. I drank it probably a little colder than I should have (refrigerator cold, not cellar cold), so I’m sure some of the taste wasn’t fully apparent. The palate was fairly pleasing - full body, creamy/thick texture, average carbonation on the tongue, but more than was expected from the visuals, bitter, lasting finish. Overall a great imperial stout.

3.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Too much of toasted and alcohol for me. I know it is an imperial stout, but I’ve have others and don’t feel this way.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Sour taste. Good chocolate notes but a hint of sour apple. Not a 100 point beer in my mind.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle. Tasted on 12/14/14. Bottle from Total Wine Lewisville, TX. Pours to a deep black color with a thin dark tan head. The aroma has roasted grains, light chocolate & licorice. The taste had very little chocolate for me & had more dark fruits & licorice. Overall good & was definitely better as it warmed up more.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
An outstanding RIS. Cracked open a bottle from 2012, was hot back upon release but has mellowed into an exceptional blend of chocolate and roasted notes. A little smoke caps this off. Comes together wonderfully, and lives up to the fantastic, jet black appearance from the bottle pour. Mouthfeel is suitably decadent - this is a high quality confection in a glass.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours jet brown, with tan head. Aroma is heavenly, rich with chocolate and malt. Taste is great, with notes of chocolate and decadently complex nuances of all the things that make a great imperial stout. Thumbs way up! Don’t miss this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark black pour, tan head that dissipates quickly. Not a lasting head, no lacing or alcohol legs. Aroma is dark berries, chocolate, roasted malts, alcohol. Taste follows suit, with a nice dry finish. Good imp stout.
