M0RHI (1026), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Jun 1, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Magic_dave6 for this one (and cgarvieuk for storing it after I left it at his!) 07-08 bottling. Thick and black with a brown head. Nose is sweet syrupy, warming, malty, some dark fruit, and heavily roasted coffee. Mouth is heavy dark malt, sweet, even sour at first, very alcoholic, but develops into the most gorgeous aftertaste of roasted espresso and lovely bitter dark gritty chocolate. Some spirit burn and warm on the way down, bit underwhelmed by the aroma, little too much alcohol evident, but fantastically good.
kempicus (192), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 6, 2008 Tried thanks to Poperinge! What a beer, the inspiration for me to brew my own imperial stout....turned out well but not nearly as good as this! This is an awesome beer, massive chocolate and dark fruit goodness with a hint of smoke! kegbear (101), Orange, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle 2007. Pours a dark black with small light brown head. Aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Some alcohol present. Very nice. Chia (23), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Oct 3, 2008 pours quarter in dark tan head. Looks like interminable darkness. Aroma is full of toasty oats and chocolate with undertones of coffee. Flavor is robust and full off chocolate and roasty toasty oats and coffee.
magnificant jeffwilliams11 (275), hooterville, Michigan, USA Oct 3, 2008 pours dark black with a thick brown head. aroma is full of chocolate and dark roasted malts, some coffee in the backgound. flavor is very rich and smooth, full chocolate, roastieness. incredibally drinkable, the only clue to its high alcohol content is the warmth going down your throat. stobbe74 (254), Denmark Sep 29, 2008 Bottle, 12 fl. oz. Pours a pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor follows the nose. The mouthfeel is bold and pleasant. A very good chocolatestout.
