COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

A: Pretty boozy off the bat. Good chocolate, coffee... yeah very boozy. A: Black and night. Super thick. Head is has poor retention. T: Thank goodness the coffee and chocolate notes are way more present in the taste than the boozy smell. Drinks thick like melted ice cream. A lot of play between flavors. P: A little acidic bit to it like with a Russian imperial.... good flavors and thick but the acidity is pretty intense and draws away from the other notes. Overall a pretty solid beer but this comes on the tails of Founders Imperial so it had a lot to live up to. This beer has solid coffee and chocolate notes but the acidity is a bit out of control as is the booze. A nice beer but needs a couple tweeks.

Appearance is just about pitch black, a light brown head which instantly disappears. Aroma is loads of chocolate- like smelling a smooth chocolate milkshake. Some hops are detectable, along with espresso coffee and a hint of dark fruit. Taste- huge bitterness, dark chocolate, lots of roasted malt, black coffee, quite a full mouthfeel, a long, bitter, chocolatey finish. Gets a bit more boozy as it warms, with notes of port and fruitcake. Really nice.

Bottle at Junction in London. Pitch black pour with tan head. Chocolate aroma with a bit of licorice but not overpowering. Smells great for a stout like this. Taste is rich and bitter chocolate - roasted malts, hoppy bitterness, lots of chocolate and some coffee. Bitter finish. Doesn't taste like 10%. Palate is both bubbly and rich (not too thick though) - nice. Exceeds expectations - delicious stout.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep black color with a thin dark beige almost brown head. Minimum retention and very few lacings left S: Smell is rich. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, candy, vanilla. Ended by grassy hops and alcohol T: Follows the nose. Roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate, coffee, yeasts, grassy hops. In overall a deliciously bitter beer. Very very tasty M: Full creamy body. Low carbonation. Dry bitter mouthfeel. Alcohol is quite evident. Aftertaste is grassy and earthy O: Brooklyn beers are usually good. This one is even better ;) [ BA Review @ 1/28/2012 ]

Great burst of flavor at first with the chocolate, but it is a harsh bite of alcohol. It finishes with bitter tastes of the cocoa bean unsweetened. The nibs if you will. Thick and rich. Deep black color.

Strong and sweet, like an Imperial Stout (which is what the label claims it to be) A winner - and a must-try if you like Imperials.

SlackerMads (1651) - Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2014
Bottled winter 2013-14. Black with a medium sized diminishing light brown head. Molasses, charcoal, bark, earthy coffee, cocoa, warming alcohol, some dried dark fruits, vanilla bean. Carries the abv well. Long finish with dark fruits. Rich without being heavy, sticky and sweet. Good.
