COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Very nice aroma and good taste of chocolate and coffee. However, I thought the alcohol too much unbalanced.

In my opinion, imperial stouts move from good to great when the fruit pokes through the dark bitter body. It does here - something between cherry and raspberry making its presence felt amongst the toasted malts, dark chocolate and smoky coffee. The red fruit comes through on the nose too, alongside darker fruit, sherry and coffee. Full bodied with good carbonation. Colour: very dark, of course. It’s a good’un.

Bottle 330ml. Winter 2013-2014 edition. Dark black with big brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and notes of vanilla. Sweet flavor, dark chocolate and coffee, moderate bitterness, notes of soy sauce, sweet-bitter sticky finish with alcohol warmth. Light carbonation, full-bodied. Very good.

On draught at Harry’s in Bermuda. Alcohol and chocolate dominate the nose. Black with brown head that quickly dissipates. Leaves nice lacing down the glass. Taste is mostly alcohol with cocoa nibs and bittersweet chocolate. Moderate bitterness and chalky aspects on finish. Lacking complexity for the style as it is really just chocolate and alcohol.

Too much alcohol. Too much chocolate malt. Just too complicated. BB lost sight of the goal - brew something people will enjoy drinking.

Part 1: Winter 14-15 drunk fresh for research purposes. Aroma is fruits and alcohol like a homemade liqueur. Flavor is bitter and ashy but redeemed with a little sweetness. There are chocolate roasts and dried fruits. It has a delectably thick and smooth mouthfeel like most of its style, but a little dry. It’s fine but not great. 3.3/5.0 Part 2: Aged bottle to follow in a year or so.

Very Good beer. Nera, impenetrabile, buona schiuma. Buonissima birra, ben fatta.

Bottle at Home. Very dark brown, small brown head. Aroma is bursting with coffee, chocolate and licorice. Flavour has coffee and dark roasted malt with a , bitter finish.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2015 Draught at the English Cellar Alehouse. Pours dark-chocolate brown with half an inch of light brown, medium-fine coarseness head. Aroma/flavor is malt sweetness, light chocolate milk, bit of mineral content and soy sauce, some caramel notes. Body is medium, syrupy-watery with a light/soft carbonation. Overall, a decent imperial stout, but could use less residual sweetness and more caramel malt. Update: out of the bottle, I had a much better impression. Flavors of rich chocoalate, light cherry, some caramel. Matching aroma. Full bodied. Score reflects this experience.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2015 Pours dark black. Nose of coffee and chocolate. Tastes initially of coffee with well balanced hops bitterness. Very complex. Delicious! Possibly my favorite imperial stout.

Poured a dark black colour with a half inch tan head that left thin spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, and dark chocolate with a hint of alcohol. Flavor is initially of toasted malts and a light bitterness, followed by a sweet chocolate warmth. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
