This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2013 Super dark, thick, strong and quite creamy. Lingering sweet coffee and chocolate aftertaste. I could drink a lot of these!

Bottle. Aroma: dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, very intensive. Black coloured, oily, large creamy dark head. Good lacing. Very nice long taste. Chocolate, tiny bit of alcohol, but well balanced, full bodied. Good.

Flaska från SB. Svart färg med ljusbrunt skum. Doftar choklad, kaffe, mineral och vanilj. Lite rökig smak med toner av choklad, kaffe, pecannöt och lakrits.

Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma of cocoa and slight smoke. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate that turns into bitter dark chocolate. Roasted malt in there, blends nicely. High alcohol not noticeable. My phone says it’s 9 degrees F outside, perfect for this beer. Very enjoyable. Extra points for $8.99 price.

Pours black liquid with thin brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Taste roasted malt and black chocolate. Nice and creamy. Something is missing though... Good overall brew!

Appearance: opaque black with only the merest hint of relief around the margins, one finger of medium dense light beige head, good retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: chocolate, coffee and dark roast malt notes, liquorice, light metallic. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (5/10) Palate: medium-full slightly slick body, moderate carbonation, bitter and mildly warming finish. (4/5) Black? Check. Chocolate? Check. Stout? Check. Well, that’s that, then, isn’t it? Oh, you wanted more? OK, well, it starts off with heavy chocolate and not much else, but eventually that settles down and some dark roasty notes come through. Unfortunately, so does a light metallic tinge, particularly on the tongue. It’s not terrible, by any means, but I’ve definitely had better chocolate stouts. On the up side, the double-digit ABV is barely noticeable and really only presents as a mild warming. (14/20)

Black, huge beige head that stays for quite a while. Classic RIS notes of strong bitter coffee and dark chocolate; smoke, some charcuterie. More coffee than chocolate if you ask me. Full body. Quite bitter. Very well executed, amazing value for money.

Very disappointing offering. I hope this was just a bad bottle but had a distinct ash tray note to it.

Bottle @home. Pours black with a tan head great lacing. Nose is chocolate , licorice and ever-so-slightly coffee. Taste is very much the same, it has nice sweet start but then goes into a lingering bitter finish. A really nice beer, top-notch.
