12 oz. bottle from a snifter. Pours a dark black color with a small brown head. Pretty pour. Aroma has a ton of roasty malt and dark chocolate. Taste has a big roasty character up front, but finishes with a nice, strong dark chocolate. Great beer. Definitely a sipper though.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 dougdecinces (54) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Bottle. They weren’t kidding. The aroma is overwhelmingly of chocolate, sugar, and alcohol. Opaque black with small, mocha head. Flavor is bitter chocolate and licorice with some roastiness on the end. A lot drier and lighter-bodied than expected. Save for Old Rasputin, this is the most easy-drinking RIS that I have had. A good RIS, and it gets bonus points for giving itself the perfect name, but too much black licorice flavor for my taste
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Billicus (52) - Paulsboro, New Jersey, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Wow, aroma is malty chocolatey some faint hops, color, dark as night, cant see through, nice chocolate hue, taste at first bitter hops, then the sweetness of the roasted malts comes through, nice backend coffee essence, overall, Awesome job, Ive had it no 3 times good stuff
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dr_Butty (19) - SCOTLAND - FEB 7, 2012
It’s winter so exploring the heavy duty end of the stout spectrum. Pours black with no head. Very chocolately aroma, like drinking cocoa. Big strong chocolate flavours dominate along with dark roast malts. Possibly lacks a little body for a beer this strong and full flavoured. Long dry bitter finish. An example of what the US breweries do well.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kryon (147) - SWEDEN - FEB 7, 2012
Pours opaque with low thick head
Aromas full of chocolate some coffee beans and hops
Quite mild palate with a bitter ending. Taste is rich of chocolate and coffee but in a really nice way. Brooklyns finest!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thebeerdude (17) - Norfolk, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2012
Bottle. Aroma strong of chocolate and fainter vanilla and licorice notes; pours very dark to black with a small, brown head. Balanced taste of sweet and bitter with coffee added to the mix with an impressive, long finish. My first imperial stout, very rich, but maybe too bitter finish for my tastes.

Very little head. Very dark. Nose of chocolate. Taste of chocolate, a little smoke. Not very hoppy, just a hint of bitterness.
