This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 12oz bottle poured into stout snifter. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malts, and alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet to start with dark chocolate and vanilla flavors then switches to moderately bitter featuring coffee roasted malts, and anise. Alcohol is not masked. Medium body, creamy texture, medium-light carbonation, long bitter roasty finish with warming from the alcohol.

Bottle. Winter 2014-2015. This is a very nice stout from Brooklyn Brewery. I was impressed with the nice cascading from the pour. Velvety smooth mouthfeel.

Pours jet black with a thin tan head. Dry, smoky, and boozy, it’s almost like a red wine to me. I’m thinking my bottle must have been off because I don’t see how this gets such high reviews.

From bottle. Poured with 4cm high, pretty head. Having read other reviewers I don’t think my bottle was quite right. The balance and complexity wasn’t there as it should be in a good stout, and the booze came through more strongly than I liked. Would try again to see if it was different but would not have another if what I drank was the real deal.

Black with nearly no head. Lots of bitter dark chocolate. Highly sweet with a mild bitter finish. Flat to low carbonation. Rather one dimensional chocolate.
