BeerBelcher (800), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 24, 2007 This beer is much less chocolate-y than others with that word in their title, but that is not a bad thing. This is a stout with a bit of sour and oaky flavor, which make it quite unique.
Appearance is extremely dark with a good amount of tan head. Aroma is extremely caramel malty, with some chocolate and bourbon notes...the maltiness definitely comes before the chocolate. Flavor is somewhat sour and oaky, with some bourbon notes. Chocolate is definitely less pronounced than most beers that have the word "chocolate" in their description, but that’s not a bad thing. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky and yet astringent at the same time. This is a very interesting beer.
BlockBrew (111), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Dec 4, 2008 Pours black with a huge fluffy tan head. Aroma of strong roasted malts. Sweet malts, chocolate and some coffee in the flavor. A little alcohol in the finish. santoslhalper (252), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 4, 2008 2 year old bottle. Dark black with a thin beige head. Vinous and roasty aroma. Lots of molasses and soy sauce in the taste, with dark fruits and chocolate. Some bitter coffee in the finish. A good brew, but I think I liked it more fresh. Age and learn. mahennin (6), chicago, Illinois, USA does not count Dec 4, 2008 Black, thick lasting head. Smells of raisins and chocolate. Great taste of bitter, black chocolate. Very good. bconley (82), Fern Park, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2008 On tap at Red Light Red Light. REALLY Nice. Pours BLACK. This is like a chocolate, malty milkshake. Nice cherry hints. Definite coffee and nutty tastes. Nice and roasty. Wish I could drink this on a cold night...but we don’t have many of those here in Orlando. llbjr77 (70), Largo, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2008 Pours a dark black color with a small tan head. Strong chocolate taste with a mix of malts, and slight fruity taste. A typical stout in style, but freat tasting. Alcohol is masked by the strong chocolate flavor. Great for the this time of year. Will drink again.
