Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

12 oz. bottle, winter 2002/2003 vintage. I'm drinking this now. The pour is as ebony as I've ever seen. I can discern no light through it. Medium head. Strong aroma of molasses, coffee, blackberries, and port wine. One of the strongest aromas I've ever experienced, with a dark brown head (may be the brownest head I've ever seen, too). First sip is heavy, malty, hoppy, tart, and smooth. Definite molasses, maple syrup, black coffee, and prune flavor. The alcohol is disguised well, but I still sense it. This beer is not for the weak of heart or the non stout drinker. Not much lace, but the finish is strong and smooth, with a final kick of blackberry, port wine, and slightly more alcohol. Awesome...just awesome. A hall of famer. One of the few flavor 10s, and one of the highest scores, that I've given. I give minus one tenth for lack of head, and minus two tenths for a slight (very slight) alcohol taste at the finish. One of the best beers of all time.

Opaque ebony with a medium brown head with nice lacing. Chocolate mocha aroma with an extremely smooth chocolate malt taste and chocolate linger in the aftertaste. It hides the alcohol well! Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for the trade!

Bottle. Aroma: Perfect 10, really rich, chocolatey, very little roasted malts. Coffee. Taste is impeccable, alcohol well masked. One of the best beer I’ve had.

2007-08 bottle from a six pack I picked up at a Harris Teeter in North Carolina. Pours a pitch black color with a light creamy head. Dark malts, coffee and chocolate aroma. Taste is full bodied, yet vey easy to drink. Finish is very clean. This is a work of art.

Poured from a bottle into a glass. Completely jet black. Not even the slightest bit of transparency. Not a very heavy taste of chocolate, but a very noticable coffee taste. The aftertaste tasted of a bitter baking chocolate flavor. One of the best seasonal beers I have tried.

This is one tasty beverage. A great full stout. It pours black with a very thick tan head. The taste is incredible! It has a very heavy dark chocolate taste, with just a hint of coffee flavor in there as well. It is a very full bodied beer. Re-rate 3-7-07 New recipe with a higher ABV than the old stuff. This has definitely improved with the new recipe. Fuller flavor, lots of great chocolate tastes and a nice thick, sticky, creamy mouthfeel. Hard to improve on an already great stout--but this is even better than before.

I love stouts and this is an excellent one--not too bitter, has a ton of chocolate flavor and aroma and pours a very nice, resilient head into a pint glass.

12fl. oz. bottle (Winter 04/05) drunk at the White Horse, Parson’s Green, 30th Dec 2007. Wow, just wow. This three year old bottle just blew me away. Pours black with a subsiding dark tan head. Great aroma - initially smells of caramel and speyside whisky but then the dark chocolate notes come through in force. The flavour is all about chocolate, but that’s not to say there is no complexity. It had the most complex cocoa flavour I’ve ever tasted. As you savour each mouthful, the flavour buidls and builds. It just keeps giving. The palate is smooth and packed with flavour, without being too heavy. A sublime chocolate imperial stout.
