Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Fantastic black liquid that oozes out of the bottle like treacle and forms a smalll light brown head. Strong chocolatey nose with coffee. Strong roasted malt taste with all the complex chocolatey coffee flavour you would expect and the long warming chocolate finish. Pure luxury.

Great roasted aroma. Body is full of roasted and chocolate malts...perfectly balanced with the hops. A great imperial Stout.

A classic imperial. The stout pours black with a dark, whipped cream like head. The taste of roasted malts permeates the pallate with a chocolate/brandy aftertaste. A true winter warmer through and through. Another great beer from the folks at Brooklyn.

2001-2002 Vintage. Coffee/chocolate aroma, black, medium cappuccino head, pretty lace. Flavour is roasted bitter coffee. Amazingly bitter, oily, full bodied. Superb!

Winter 2002-2003 batch. Strong smell of alcohol when opened. Faint raisin aroma also.Strong currant aroma & taste. Hop aroma non-existent. Low hops bitterness in this batch. Alcohol taste is overwhelming. Dark tan head that fades quickly, leaving slight lace on top. Big, malty profile, some diacetyl present, but not to excess. Bittersweet chocolate taste towards finish. Black as the Ace of spades! Goes down easily, maybe too much so, because this big, malty brute will sneak up on you. A very warming beer, great for matching with a chocolate mousse dessert, or maybe a nice piece of New York cheesecake with fresh raspberries on top. A great brew for those upcoming cold winter nights. I suggest buying 3 cases like I did, and letting them age awhile. Not to be given to friends, most aren’t worthy of such a beer.

2004-?05 vintage. 35.5 cl bottle. Served in snifter. Black. Nice, creamy, brown head that leaves fine lacing. The aroma is something else: tons of chocolate, roasted coffee, rum, and delicate hoppiness. And amazingly rounded. Wonderful! The taste is impressively balanced; there?s lots of chocolate, big maltiness and sweetness, but the sweetness is balanced with nice hoppy bitterness, and impressive roasted notes. Superb finish. Full, soft mouthfeel. Good drinkability. A world class stout.
