One of the top 5 beers I tried at the festival. Pours how you would expect liquid dark chocolate to pour. Surprisingly lively tongue with chocolate (duh), clover and well-masked alcohol flavor. This is great stuff! Gregory (357), Pullman, Washington, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2002 01/02 version. Beautiful deep black beer, with a nice creamy brown head. Starts sweet, full middle, of extremely dark malt, bitter chocoalte, this finish is bitter chocolate. Alcohol comes through in the taste, and it defnately warms up my stomach. Now too bad I didn’t have this beer in winter, rather than, in the beginning of spring. Flavors become more intricate, more interesting the more I taste. Highly reccomended. ericnixon (719), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 27, 2003 Updated: Jul 18, 2003New Rating: My completel tool of a brother forced me to rerate this. he wouldn't tell me what it was. and i was like "hey, this shit's pretty gwood!" then he told me this was one of the beers i hated the most. drinking it out of a Sam Adams Triple Bock glass (the wee li'l one) which held in the perky choco coffee aroma nicely. it had a beautiful wafter thin medium brown head that was in nice contrast to the almost blackish color of the beer. Velvety smooth as it went down leaving behind the telltale lightly (oh so lightly) burnt choco taste dancing across my tongue and teasing the roof of my mouth. on second sip it reminds me of a dark black forest cake, or some other wicked mega super chocolately dessert, but not so over the top that you need a pint of mil to wash it down. on thei third sip, i'm left thinking, damn, this is frickin' gwood! it's the perfect blend. what the hell was i thinking when i first had this? i guess it shows how i've grown in my tastes and appreciation of good beers. yeah!
Old Rating: This crappy-ass beer looks like Coke with a semi-flat head. It smells like semi-sweet baking chocolate (yuk!). It tastes just like Sam Adams Triplebock. BBB63 (4283), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 25, 2003 Opaque black with large creamy light brown head. Excellent lacing. Full-bodied. Heavy malty aroma, bittersweet chocolate and expresso nose, hints of smoke and spruce. Chocolate undertones to a bitter taste, finishes clean however. Very creamy and lively mouthfeel. Moderate alcohol level also detected on the palate. Rivals Youngs Double Chocolate stout for best of the genre, outstanding beer, highly recommended. DragonStout (1386), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 6, 2005 12 oz bottle, winter 04-05 release. chocolate, winey alcohol, roast barley, some starchy oatmeal-like residual sugars in the aroma. taste is similar to the aroma, with some oak and chalk flavors as well. surprisingly dry on my tongue for a ’chocolate’ imperial stout. like a better version of old rasputin, with a little less alcohol burn. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Pitch black pour with a thin brown head. Roasted malt nose. Incredibly rich, sweet and chocolatey flavor. Surprisingly subtle alcohol presence, I thought. Well balanced with a bittersweet finish. Wow. This was incredible. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 7, 2003 This Stout came highly recommended. My so far limited beer vocabulary is inadequate to accurately describe what I'm smelling, so the best I can do is simile and metaphor. The predominant aroma I'm experiencing is the smell of wasabi in soy sauce. It's so dark it's like pouring a very thin crude into your glass. The head was thick and creamy and dense enough to hold up a bottle cap (no kidding). When you tilted the glass it would coat the sides. The flavor is heavy and manifold, and as I've already said, I'm at a lack to fully describe what I'm tasting, but I'll get better. I'll have to come back and re-rate this one later.
