COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Winter 02-03 Bottling Large, dense and creamy mocha colored head that lasted a good while; very good lacing. Strong, enticing dark chocolate aroma layered with a slightly smoky roastiness, some fruitiness and bit of a red wine-like acidity. Flavor upfront was moderately sweet and malty accompanied by a very present semi-sweet dark chocolate character. Mid-palate had some fruitiness with a slight acidity and a pleasingly subtle alcohol warmth that lasted into the finish. Wonderfully long lasting finish and aftertaste that was absent the usual sharpness of black malt/roasted barley. Instead it was reminiscent of toasted pastry crust, coffee, and burnt currant; all set off nicely by a mild bitterness. Palate was full bodied with a silky-velvety texture that was enhanced by a soft carbonation. Very smooth and quite easy drinking for and imperial stout. The complex finish is what really captivated me about this beer. This would go well with a nice Sachertorte or a dark chocolate-raspberry mousse cake. Thanks to DocLock for sending me TWO of these!

It tastes, smells and looks very nice. The only downside with this imperial stout is that its a bit to boozy for me.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. A basic RIS offering that is very heavy on umami & liquorish flavours which is available on massive scale in the USA from what I have gathered. It is in the top 50 most rated beers on RB. It lacks any real chocolate for me but I do believe that chocolate isnt an actual ingredient & the term here is more about the power of suggestion than anything else. Appearance is usual pitch black, pure black chocolate let us say for poetic sense, dark brown mocha head that quickly largely vanishes. Banished to only the sides of the glass. Nose is thick boozy, soy sauce, huge umami profile with lots of thick and bitter liquorish flavors, Bitter umami, soy sauce, black liquorish, fish guts all heavy dominated the profile for me, Medium bodied for the style. The longer I am vegan the more appear to develop a dislike for this kind of heavy umami & black liquorish profile in stouts. Unfortunately this just isnt for me but that is strictly personal.

Pours dark brown with little beige head. A toasted aroma with hints of chocolate. Slight acidic taste with a low bitter finish.

Chocolate stout com espuma fugaz, aroma de cacau e café torrado, gosto acompanha o aroma mas sem realçar tanto o café. Retrogosto com leve amargor. Cerveja boa para o preço mas nada demais...

2.1.2015. Pours black and quite thick, brown head. Quite intense roasted aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavour is dryish bittery roasted, dark chocolate, coffee notes at the end. Very good value for price. Warming.

Im not normally a fan of chocolate stouts but I liked this one quite a bit. Silky, dark, Carmel, heavy, a touch sour (which was my least favorite part) would buy again but not my fav

Bottle from Signal Variety, Plaistow, NH. Aroma is pleasantly chocolatey without being overpowering with a mild cheesy/doughy component? Appearance is opaque black with a modest (one finger width) orangey-beige head with fair duration and nice lacing. Taste is interplay of medium bitterness and sweetness. Full bodied, creamy texture with lively early carbonation (mildly overpowering the taste) and nice, long finish. I always give extra props for beers that achieve a particular taste (chocolate, in this case) through malts, hops, or grains rather than adding the actual flavor to the beer--that seems a bit like cheating. This beer achieves its taste through a variety of malts. Overall, a well above average beer!

Lacy tan/white head over a dark brown body. This beer has a bitter dark chocolate aroma but a sweet chocolate taste with a slightly bitter aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

First whiff of chocolate. Then strong spirit aroma. Quite bourbon like. Amazing cocoa / chocolate aftertaste which is hard to get. Had to linger in the mouth for a while.
