4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Winter 02-03 Bottling Large, dense and creamy mocha colored head that lasted a good while; very good lacing. Strong, enticing dark chocolate aroma layered with a slightly smoky roastiness, some fruitiness and bit of a red wine-like acidity. Flavor upfront was moderately sweet and malty accompanied by a very present semi-sweet dark chocolate character. Mid-palate had some fruitiness with a slight acidity and a pleasingly subtle alcohol warmth that lasted into the finish. Wonderfully long lasting finish and aftertaste that was absent the usual sharpness of black malt/roasted barley. Instead it was reminiscent of toasted pastry crust, coffee, and burnt currant; all set off nicely by a mild bitterness. Palate was full bodied with a silky-velvety texture that was enhanced by a soft carbonation. Very smooth and quite easy drinking for and imperial stout. The complex finish is what really captivated me about this beer. This would go well with a nice Sachertorte or a dark chocolate-raspberry mousse cake. Thanks to DocLock for sending me TWO of these!

Poured from the bottle into a snifter. Pours a very nice dark black with nice 2-3 finger tan head. Beers don’t look better than this. Don’t get much aroma though. Just a little chocolate and that’s it. Taste is chocolate with dark fruit. Very smooth for a 10% beer. It’s thick and coats the mouth nicely. Not to boozy at all. A very good beer for a cold night. Very good overall.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased from Bacchus in Olney and enjoyed in the comfort of my home. Pours pretty damn black, a hint of light or just my imagination? The khaki head is small and short-lived. Aroma is dominated by cooking chocolate and cheap robusta coffee. Nice but not entirely lacking a synthetic edge. The initial sweetness in the taste is batted down by the sour/bitter flavour that dominates. Much like a very strong dry stout, reminiscent of Guinness exports. A very very good beer but the exceptionally high rate isn’t really justified.

12oz bottle poured at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and alcohol. Taste starts sweet, but then converts to chocolate/coffee with a btternesss. The alcohol is also pretty noticeable. The Alcohol seems to come forward the more one drinks it.
Over all decent beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
http://imgur.com/XkaHDdE -- Bottle. Pours opaque black with moderate tan head that lasts and laces. Smells of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Drinks with a slight alcohol bite and mild lingering bitterness. Medium bodied. Tastes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and resin. Finishes with slight alcohol warmth. Slight acetyl taste in this bottle, but I’m willing to chalk that up to improper storage, as it sat at the bottom of a fridge for all eternity -- I’d want to try another bottle of this to be confident in the rating.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle poured into stout snifter. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malts, and alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet to start with dark chocolate and vanilla flavors then switches to moderately bitter featuring coffee roasted malts, and anise. Alcohol is not masked. Medium body, creamy texture, medium-light carbonation, long bitter roasty finish with warming from the alcohol.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Roasted and a bit vineous note in the aroma. Not as much chocolate as expected.
Pitch black with thin beige head
Taste is mostly roasted and here you can at least notice some dark chocolate. There are some alcoholic tones as well. It finishes with roasted and burnt notes, coffe bitterness accompanied with burnt toast,
Fyll body, average carbonation and creamy texture
Not as good as I remember it and not with as much chocolate, But the burnt notes in the taste is really nice

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
