COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Winter 02-03 Bottling Large, dense and creamy mocha colored head that lasted a good while; very good lacing. Strong, enticing dark chocolate aroma layered with a slightly smoky roastiness, some fruitiness and bit of a red wine-like acidity. Flavor upfront was moderately sweet and malty accompanied by a very present semi-sweet dark chocolate character. Mid-palate had some fruitiness with a slight acidity and a pleasingly subtle alcohol warmth that lasted into the finish. Wonderfully long lasting finish and aftertaste that was absent the usual sharpness of black malt/roasted barley. Instead it was reminiscent of toasted pastry crust, coffee, and burnt currant; all set off nicely by a mild bitterness. Palate was full bodied with a silky-velvety texture that was enhanced by a soft carbonation. Very smooth and quite easy drinking for and imperial stout. The complex finish is what really captivated me about this beer. This would go well with a nice Sachertorte or a dark chocolate-raspberry mousse cake. Thanks to DocLock for sending me TWO of these!

Nearly black with dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is bitter dark chocolate, alcohol (10%),some roast flavors and molasses too. Finish is dark chocolate and some sweetness character like milk chocolate. Mouth feel is similar to cream sherry. This is a very nice imperial stout, comparable to some that cost twice as much.

33cl bottle. Deep dark brown colour with a very thin brown head. Dark chocolate, coffee, roasted, light smoked and liquorice in the aroma. Soft to medium carbonation and medium to full body. Taste is like having a light cigar, eating dark chocolate with a coffee and a Port wine, all in the same glass. Overall, a very good beer.

Pours like ink with a thin dark tan head. Aroma is sweet chocolate and dark fruits. Heavy beer with a sweet dark fruit and chocolate taste on the tongue. This beer is way too sweet for my taste.

Too much of toasted and alcohol for me. I know it is an imperial stout, but I’ve have others and don’t feel this way.

Tap. Sour taste. Good chocolate notes but a hint of sour apple. Not a 100 point beer in my mind.

12 oz bottle. Tasted on 12/14/14. Bottle from Total Wine Lewisville, TX. Pours to a deep black color with a thin dark tan head. The aroma has roasted grains, light chocolate & licorice. The taste had very little chocolate for me & had more dark fruits & licorice. Overall good & was definitely better as it warmed up more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2014 An outstanding RIS. Cracked open a bottle from 2012, was hot back upon release but has mellowed into an exceptional blend of chocolate and roasted notes. A little smoke caps this off. Comes together wonderfully, and lives up to the fantastic, jet black appearance from the bottle pour. Mouthfeel is suitably decadent - this is a high quality confection in a glass.

Dark black, opaque, medium brown head. Smells roasty, like bitter chocolate, malt, coffee, licorice. Heavy-makty taste, red berries, chocolate, coffee. Oily texture and velvety finish.

Smell is faint malty sweetness with a bit of coffee. Taste is a mildly roasty stout with some dark chocolate taste at the end. Medium body with medium carbonation.
